FREEDOM PICNIC JUNE 3
Join us Saturday, June 3, for our 3rd Annual Freedom Picnic and Pie Bake-Off!
Featured speakers Clarence Henderson, civil rights icon who helped launch the sit-in protests in Greensboro, and Mark Cavaliero, former NC Senate candidate and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, will share their stories and thoughts on freedom.
Western Wake is providing the burgers, hot dogs and beverages. Please bring a side to share. Let us know you (and your family) are coming by signing up below. Then we'll know how many burgers and hot dogs to buy.
If you're feeling competitive, bring a pie or cobbler to enter in the competition. Also, let us know if you'd like to be a judge for the pie contest. Be sure to sign up below.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
With a veto override in both chambers of the NC General Assembly, SB20 "Care for Women, Children, and Families Act” becomes law, protecting even more unborn lives and providing support for women and families. SB 20 sets reasonable limits on elective abortion in NC, and makes over $160 million in significant investments in the welfare of children, families and women. The law takes effect July 1.
The NC House passed a bill to fund students through a method lawmakers have deemed "backpack funding" rather than funding public schools directly. House Bill 823 would expand the opportunity scholarship program to all K-12 students in North Carolina with grant amounts based on household income.
Visit ncleg.gov for news, happenings and tidbits from the General Assembly.
