RAD RECENT PRESS WE'RE REAL PROUD OF
SYRYN RECORDS CLASS OF ‘23 ★ JR HI THE MAGAZINE (JUNIOR HIGH LA)
"...A huge part of it is the visibility and creating more visibility for artists like us. For me, SYRYN RECORDS has really helped me step up seeing other people who have SIMILAR GOALS as me and do what I want to do. Having guest mentors come in and talk about what their experiences are and seeing their trials and tribulations and seeing that I'M NOT REALLY ALONE in what I'm going through definitely has helped me a lot too. Even though there are a lot of obstacles, coming up as an artist doesn't have to be so complicated and I'm not alone in the journey..."

FIND YOUR SQUAD! AMPLIFY SLEEP AWAY CAMP FOR GIRLS ★ MOMSLA
"...Amplify attracts youth from all over the world, giving them the chance to be endlessly creative whether they want to play in a band, create a photography portfolio, master music production, and much more. This CREATIVE OASIS works to challenge gender stereotypes (girls rock!!), encourage empathy and teamwork, and provide a comfortable space for all girls to express themselves—to AMPLIFY their voices as their authentic selves... While there are immersive-specific “lessons,” Amplify is SO NOT SCHOOL. Imagine learning to play an instrument, writing an original song, jamming on stage... Doesn’t sound like school to us."

AMPLIFY ARTS PROJECT HELPS GIRLS BE THEIR MOST AUTHENTIC SELVES ★ NOOZHAWK
"...All campers participate in the big END-OF-CAMP SHOWCASE where they boast what they’ve learned and created in front of the whole camp community. This could be an original song written and learned with their bandmates, an a cappella choir production, a self-produced single or mix, a music video, a photo essay, even a mini documentary! Beyond these more “tangible” achievements, all campers are also working to achieve important goals like feeling safe, accepted, accepting... By the end of 2022, 99% of youth felt safe; 97% felt respected for who they are; 90% developed skills they think will help them in a future career; 89% felt more proud of girls/women… there’s way more where that came from."

OUR HERO ELLA AT IT AGAIN WITH AN AMAZING PERIOD PRODUCT DRIVE
Longtime program participant, teen council member, volunteer, high school senior, and all-around icon ELLA leads the PERIOD POVERTY PROJECT. Last fall they organized a wildly successful Period Product Drive in Santa Barbara: a grand total of 5,173 PADS and 2,583 TAMPONS (7,756 total indiv. products) were collected and donated to local homeless shelters. And, as so often happens with periods, which tend to come just about every month to about half the population, all of these products have now been used up!

Ella and co. are hosting their second-ever PERIOD PRODUCT DRIVE ALL THIS MONTH (May). Drop-off bins are at all local Starbucks locations, plus an additional location at Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara - Goleta Valley Center. It's crucial to get period products to as many individuals in need as possible, so they've partnered with the Santa Barbara Food Bank and the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission to distribute donated products.

Please consider donating 🙏 and learn more anytime at their highly informative website! We're so beyond proud of our rad, brave, uplifting youth 🙌
HELP END PERIOD POVERTY
CAMP CREATIVE IMMERSIVE DEEP DIVE
Before arriving at camp, campers choose one focus or “immersive” for each session they're attending. Most camp days are split between classes in their chosen immersive, under the instruction of our expert teaching staff, and other incredibly fun activities. From vocals to drums, music production, photography, and more, there’s something awesome for everyone!
"Really loved creating my own song in just one week with the music production immersive!! The counselors are so uplifting and the environment is super supportive."

"Since I started this program my life has improved in so many ways. I spend less time online and more time practicing my guitar and improving my motor memory skills. I hope to one day help girls learn to play as an instructor myself and participate in this program for years to come."

"The most rewarding part of working here is definitely the showcase: seeing all of my campers going up there, performing, singing their hearts out, playing their instruments, jamming out with everybody. It's amazing, and it's great to see how much they've grown throughout the [session]."

MEET THE CAMP SQUAD
We're so excited about the team we've put together to teach, inspire, and care for our campers this summer at Amplify. So, of course we want to tell the world about them! Meet SHANNA, who returns this summer as our PROGRAM (CAMP) DIRECTOR 👑

"I’ll always love the ocean, but that didn’t stop me from trading my surfboard for a drum set when I was in 10th grade. After graduating college, I moved to Portland, Oregon, and PLAYED DRUMS FOR SEVERAL DIFFERENT BANDS including The Haggard (Mr Lady), Cadallaca (K records and Kill Rock Stars), and STLS (Kill Rock Stars). Whenever I was home from touring, I worked as a nanny, in after school programs and summer camps. In 2001, I was able to combine my love of camp, music, and mentorship as a volunteer at the first Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls. Within a few years, I joined the executive leadership team, HELPED FOUND THE GIRLS ROCK CAMP ALLIANCE, and worked on “Girls Rock: The Movie” (2007) and Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls: How to Start a Band, Write Songs, Record an Album, and Rock Out (2008, Chronicle Books).

I joined the Amplify team as a day camp drum instructor in 2013. Since then, I have worn every hat from camp director to gear manager. With enormous joy, I began my full time position as program director in 2021. I love that I get to work every day to empower girls and women. I love to connect families and youth to our mission, mentors, and incredible programming that teaches not only technical skills of music education and the creative arts, but also life skills such as team work, participating in community, and developing meaningful relationships with positive mentors..."
