KZN DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH’S HUMAN RESOURCE:CHIEF DIRECTOR OBTAINS PHD AT DUT

Chief Director: Human Resource Management Services at the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health, Dr Nozipho Mthembu, graduated with a PhD in Management Sciences, specialising in Human Resource Management, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2023 Autumn Graduation ceremony at the Indumiso Campus Hall in Pietermaritzburg, on Tuesday night (16 May 2023).

The 64-year-old Dr Mthembu was born in Adams Mission, Amanzimtoti. She believes that this qualification proves that a person is never too old to learn and that it also serves as an inspiration for younger women, that education can be used to emancipate themselves.

SOSIBA STUDIED FURTHER TO AVOID HAVING A DOUBLE DISABILITY

Thandiwe Sosiba received a standing ovation when she graced the stage to obtain her Diploma in Public Administration, specializing in Supply Chain Management, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2023 Autumn Graduation at Indumiso Campus Hall in Pietermaritzburg, on Tuesday afternoon (16 May 2023).

Sosiba (23) from KwaNyamazane in Pietermaritzburg, was born with a walking disability, however, her desire to succeed in life motivated her to pursue her studies at DUT. She completed her matric at the Open Air School for learners living with disabilities.

STUDENT GOVERNANCE & DEVELOPMENT HOSTED AN INAUGURAL VC & PRINCIPAL ENGAGEMENT AND NETWORKING BREAKFAST

The Student Governance and Development unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted an Inaugural Networking Breakfast between DUT’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu and the Student Parliament members on Thursday, 11 May 2023 at Makhosini Lounge.

Giving the opening remarks was Mr Masiza Ngculu, Student Governance and Development Manager, who also thanked the guests for attending the event.

The networking breakfast was geared towards moulding the DUT Student Parliament members into becoming great leaders and to give them a platform to engage and share ideas with Prof Mthembu.

DUT OPEN WEEK IS GROWING IN LEAPS AND BOUNDS TO A BIGGER SCALE

There were 73 schools that had visited the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’S) successful Open Week at the Ritson Campus Hall from 10 May 2023 to 13 May 2023.

The aim of the Open Week was to provide information and guidance about different programmes offered by DUT and how they can apply for them. Students are given CAO forms with general information. At each stand, they received detailed specific brochures about a particular course of study.

During the Open Week, 8905  pupils attended the event, and the general consensus from pupils from Grade 9 and Grade 12 were that this was very helpful as they are now aware of all the courses that are on offer at DUT.

DUT IMPACT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Sibahle Ngcobo and Waheeda Peters spoke to Information Technology lecturer, Dr Prinavin Govender.
