Hello!

I hope you are well, <<First Name>>. Sorry that I've not been in touch for a short while. Lots of client work got in the way a little (see below), enjoyable though it has been, but I'm back! Welcome to the latest newsletter, which as ever has lots of stories, links, news and event write-ups. Here goes.

Where are we now? Where are we now? The first steps in developing your fundraising strategy

I’d always recommend starting by breaking your strategic thinking on fundraising (and indeed your organisation as a whole) into three parts: where you are you now, where you want to get to, and how. This blog focuses on the first of these: understanding where you and your organisation’s fundraising are now, and features a gratuitous David Bowie reference. Read it here.

Philanthropy reports and more

As a few clients have asked for it lately, I thought for this newsletter I would collate a few recent reports from the sector here for you to read at your leisure:

ACF Foundation Giving Trends 2022
Beacon Collaborative: Giving Experience Report
Blackbaud: The Status of UK Fundraising 2022
CAF UK Giving Report 2022
CAF World Giving Index 2022
Enthuse Donor Pulse - Spring 2023
NCVO Covil Society Almanac 2022

And here are my own blogs and write-ups of events I've attended:

Still want to read more? On our website there is a wealth of insight, stories, links and blogs. All articles are categorised by subject matter: charity managementcommunicationsfundraisinggovernance, and professional development.

And there’s even more!

Fundraising Strategy by Dr Claire Routley & Richard Sved

Do you lurch from one fundraising campaign to the next, or are you able to step back and take the long view? The way you approach fundraising can make all the difference to your charity’s success and its ultimate survival. The prudent fundraiser has to have a strategy in place that is both robust and dynamic, and this book will set you on the path to achieving that.

Fundraising Strategy is the ultimate companion for any fundraiser who wants to think more strategically about their work, or who has been tasked with leading a strategy process.

‘At last! The book I wish I’d had 20 years ago. I feel I had to stumble towards this, drawing on a range of sources, but here it is: a definitive guide, grounded in real-world examples. I know this will help any fundraiser build and implement their strategy effectively, for I have seen the principles work. It should be standard issue across the sector.’
Matt Parkes, Director of Development, Diocese of Westminster, and Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising
