SAIntS Family Newsletter 33
Friday 9th June 2023
Dear SAIntS Family
It was good to see our Year 12s return this week as the new Seniors of the school. Each year I am amazed as the students who arrived as tiny Year 7s are suddenly in their final year at school!  Next week we will see our Year 13s graduate in a wonderful ceremony on Friday and then say a final farewell at the Graduation Ball on Saturday evening. I am blessed to have joined them all on this incredible journey.
SAIntS on Tour
We are travelling to Lilongwe again today to meet more prospective parents. If you know any parents who would like to find out more about SAIntS, please ask them to come along and meet us at the President Walmont Hotel, Umodzi Park. Please see the infographics below for further information.
Universities Day

Tuesday the 6th of June was the day all the Year 12 kick started their Year 13 academic year with a program lined up with university activities. The morning started with an introduction by Ms Hove, our University counsellor, looking at tips on how to choose a university and writing a personal statement. Four Year 13 students “told it as it was”, how they went through the application processes of UK universities, US universities, Europe, Spain and South African universities. The students had an opportunity to ask questions and they had a clear insight of the application processes.

After break, the students had 4 sessions of discussions with the personnel from ConnectEd focusing on UK and Canadian universities, StudyWest focusing on Australian universities, EdUSA focusing on American universities and DKAKA Consultancy focusing on Malaysian universities. They got first-hand information on how the application process works and details of the campus life of some universities and the costs of attending those universities.

Year 9s Rollover
This week our Year 9 students have begun to rollover into their Key Stage 4 subjects. We believe this extra time before Year 10 will be invaluable in giving our students a head start so that they can achieve their very best in their examination subjects.
The students have already settled in and are adapting well to the higher academic demands. Good luck, Year 9s

Lifelong Learning

On Monday, we held a Staff Inset Day which focused on integrating the UN Global Goals into the curriculum. As educators, we acknowledge our responsibility to increase awareness with our young people; they are the future and we need to empower them to make a positive impact on the world.

Chess Club

The chess club has made great strides this term, with many new students joining. We have diligently assembled a team of players to compete in the prestigious 2023 National Schools Chess Championship (NSCC2023), scheduled to take place in the next few weeks.

Watch this space - we are hopeful that we will make our mark in the championship!

Snippets from the Classroom

Art

In Mrs De Wet’s Year 8 Art Class, Khwima, Tasu and Joyful are just adding a few finishing touches to their clay funny face pencil pots. Year 8 have completed their funny face pencil pots based on their self-portraits.
The pots will dry out for a week and then go into the kiln for firing.
Year 8 will then be able to glaze them and add some bright, vibrant colour.

Physical Education

This week, the Year 9 into Year 10 rollover IGCSE PE classes have been learning how to conduct fitness tests. These have included the hand-grip dynamometer test, the sit and reach test and the ruler drop test.
The students have been using their individual results from these tests (in comparison to the normative data provided), to help them create SMART targets for areas of improvement.
Next week they will look at the protocol for the Illinois agility test and the multi-stage fitness test.
