Dear Friend,
School’s out for summer! And what a great summer of stories it will be: thousands of children in North Carolina now have home libraries filled with Book Harvest books they chose, to read over the summer and keep forever.

These students -- 14,208 of them, to be exact -- participated in Books on Break 2023, harvesting a whopping 70,389 books. All of this magic unfolded in 35 pre-k classrooms and elementary schools in Durham, Bladen, Columbus, and Guilford Counties.

But that’s not all: hundreds of children and families are harvesting books daily from Book Harvest’s Family Space, and from our 23 Book Boxes around Durham! Newborns and babies are receiving books through our Book Babies and Books from Birth programs. And our entire community is invited to harvest new favorite books at our Annual Summer Block Party on July 22!

We need your help to keep this joyful and vitally important work going, to ensure that every child has abundant access to books, that every parent has the support they need, and that every community is rich with literacy. Donate today and know that you are making a difference.

Here’s how your gift can help:

  • $1,205 gifts every student in a school with a new string backpack to hold treasured summer books.
  • $520 kindles the joy of reading for a classroom of young students to ensure they have books to read over the summer to preserve their learning.
  • $235 shares 50 new Spanish books with bilingual families!
  • $140 boosts the brain power of six young readers with books they choose from a community Book Box.
  • $80 provides a hand-crafted bookshelf to a family to keep all their beloved children’s books.
  •  $45 fuels the joy of reading for a child by providing 10 books to always cherish.

If you've already given this spring, thank you!
I am so grateful for your support.
Books are filling bookshelves in homes throughout North Carolina, but there remains so much work to be done. Thank you for being part of this journey to realize books for every child, support for every parent, and literacy for every community.

Wishing you a bounty of summer reading,

Ginger Young,
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
