Teachers across Manitoba are invited to join
Nutrients for Life Canada on a day and a half journey to explore how teachers can engage in Canada’s Sustainable Agriculture Strategy. Canadian Agriculture is sustainably addressing food security not only for the “Northern Great Plains” but also for the global community. This opportunity will provide educators with the background knowledge allowing them to integrate a science or social studies inquiry-based approach for sustainable agriculture into their classrooms.

We are anticipating a great cross section of teachers from high schools and subject areas and look forward to some amazing conversations about how agriculture can be included in the various subject areas. There are obvious direct fits in agriculture classes, social studies, world issues, and science. But we welcome all subject areas to explore the important topic of agriculture and food security!

We will hear from key (and keen) folks in the agriculture industry and have a full day and a half learning and visiting various agriculture locations! We plan on addressing a variety of topics dependent on the tour:
  • Impact and opportunities that Agriculture has for Manitoba’s economy and careers.
  • Water quality as per nutrients in lakes and rivers as well as in the reduction of greenhouse
  • Greenhouse gas emission reduction from Agriculture across Canada
  • Inquiry activities including the 4R’s, soil health and water quality for use in the classroom.
  • Address misconceptions about fertilizer use for agricultural purposes.
  • Current research studies and ideas around soil health, water quality, climate action mitigation and adaptation as well as biodiversity
  • Plant genomics / technology impact on sustainable food production
