This Week's Service:
Sunday, June 11 at 10 amPride Against Prejudice: Queer Pride as Spiritual Growth with Rev. Janet Newton
If we look at most global wisdom traditions — their teachings, scripture, history, and wisest practitioners — we find comprehensive support for the virtue of humility. From Christianity to Confucianism, Judaism to Jainism, Shinto to Islam, we are encouraged to release ego and attachment, to humble ourselves, to locate modesty within our hearts as an antidote to pride. Against that backdrop, what does it mean to embrace capital P Pride as a tool for spiritual growth and healing?
With special musical guest, Lisa Weiss.

Oak Bluffs Pride Parade Details
If you're participating in this Saturday's, June 10th Oak Bluffs Pride Parade here's the scoop:

  • Arrive at the Island Queen ferry dock between 2:00 and 2:30 pm. The organizers would prefer you to be there by 2:00pm but I think it'll be a lot of standing around doing a lot of nothing.  Please give yourself time to find a parking space and walk to the Island Queen ferry dock.
  • Parade Begins at 3:00pm.
  • Parade Route is about 0.6 miles.  From the Island Queen ferry dock, we proceed down Circuit Ave Extension --> then up Circuit Ave --> then Left onto Narragansett Ave --> then Left onto Naumkeag Ave --> Into Ocean Park
  • If you would like to participate but can't walk that far, I encourage you to be a spectator.  A parade without spectators is just a group of people walking in the street.  A parade with spectators is what makes a parade a PARADE.
  • I'm told that last year's parade had a ride-along van for those who wanted to be in the parade but were hindered by mobility challenges.  I don't know if the ride-along van will be an option this year.
  • Please bring your homemade Pride signs.
Thank you!  Chris Seidel

Climate Change Quote
"Right now, it's as if we're all piled into a giant bus barreling down that road, heading for a big curve.  Our wheels are on the rumble strip and they're sounding the alarm."
- from the author of the book "Saving Us" by Katharine Hayhoe.
Pastoral Support
In lieu of regular office hours, Rev. Janet asks that you request one-on-one meetings using this link: https://calendly.com/revjanet
From there you can select a date, time, duration and location to connect with her.

If none of the available times work for you, or if you have a more urgent need, please reach out by phone, text message or email and she will get back to you with options.

Need Someone to Listen?
In addition to pastoral care being available from Rev Janet, your Lay Ministers (Bill Bridwell, Jan Casey, Kevin Longval, Susan Desmarais) are available to lend support to anyone in our UUSMV community in their time of need, being available to listen and offer comfort. You can find their contact information in the member's section of the website:  www.uusmv.org
Minister’s Fund - Caring Fund
Caring funds are available for Members & Friends who need a helping hand this winter with food, medicine, utilities, heating, mortgage/rent payments or other essentials.  Your request for assistance will be kept confidential.  Please reach out to Rev Janet, Jan Casey, or Kristy Brooks.  UUSMV cares about you!

Mission

We are an intentionally welcoming congregation of diverse faiths and shared values, fostering spiritual growth, community action, racial equity and universal justice.

Our Vision 2025
We envision a flourishing and caring congregation that . . .
  • Built a loving and supportive, multicultural community.
  • Created thriving shared ministries led by our minister, lay leaders, and the congregation working collaboratively.
  • Worked to accountably dismantle white supremacy, racism, and all intersecting oppressions in ourselves, our community, our institutions, and our democracy.
  • Determined the feasibility of a new building/addition that will enhance our ability to serve our congregation and the island community.
……. As we seek to widen our spiritual horizons.
