Pharmacists can prescribe contraceptives, treatments for minor ailments
Starting June 1st, people in B.C. can get prescriptions from their pharmacists for contraceptives and medications to treat 21 minor ailments.
Giving community pharmacists the power to prescribe medication will take pressure off of our primary care system and let people access the care they need, faster.

B.C.’s minimum wage increases June 1 for lowest-paid workers
As of June 1, B.C.’s lowest paid workers will get a pay boost when the general minimum wage increases from $15.65 to $16.75
The 6.9% increase on Thursday, June 1, 2023, also applies to minimum-wage rates for resident caretakers, live-in home-support workers and live-in camp leaders.
Options are being developed to continue to fulfil government’s commitment to tie minimum wage to inflation for future years.

More help coming for seniors facing mental health, addiction challenges
The government has provided Seniors Services Society of B.C. (SSSBC) with an additional $809,000 grant for its Senior Housing Information and Navigation Ease (SHINE) program.
With this support, seniors living with mental health and addiction challenges who are at risk of becoming homeless will have more help in navigating vital supports.
These services will be delivered through community partners in Nanaimo, Langley’s Aldergrove, Kelowna, Surrey, Vancouver’s West End, Prince George and New Westminster, with three new partners on the way in Victoria, Richmond and Penticton.

Enhanced safety, quality for care-home residents
Seniors deserve safe, quality care while in long-term care and assisted living homes.
That’s why we’re investing an additional $14 million in the EquipCare BC program for health, safety, and quality improvements in publicly funded seniors care homes.
EquipCare BC supports eligible care homes in purchasing items, such as additional lifts, bathtubs and bathing equipment, dining furniture, specialized or transport wheelchairs, sensory equipment, urgent-response systems, medical bed mattresses, nurse-call systems, environmental cleaning equipment, air-conditioning and other temperature-control equipment.
