Happy New Year
Like Atlanta Rollergirls to Host the 2012 WFTDA Championships on Facebook

The Atlanta Rollergirls have much to celebrate as we ring in the new year: new rookies, new skills, and a new season – our eighth!  We didn’t take it easy this off-season, and plan to thrill next month with harder hits and faster jammers as the home teams set their sights on dethroning last year's champions, the Sake Tuyas. Tickets will go fast for our first bouts on February 18, when the Dirty South Derby Girls take on Maine's Port Authorities, and the Apocalypstix and Denim Demons repeat last season's nail-biter Grudge Match, which the Stix won by one tiny point.  Will they do it again?  Don't miss out; the new season is here, and we're ready.  Get your tickets here.

Have What It Takes to Be an Atlanta Rollergirl?

We do, too! We're ready to mold the newest and brightest into lean, mean, derby machines. And don't worry if you haven't been on skates since your little sister's 10th birthday party, you'll be surprised to learn how many of your Atlanta Rollergirls were in the same boat. It's more important that you have a good attitude, a mouthguard (seriously, you have to bring a mouthguard), and some guts.

Announcing the Derby Brats Inaugural Season

An early morning practice on January 7 marked the official opening of the Atlanta Derby Brats’  2012 season. Following an extremely successful summer junior derby program, Coach Tanya Hyde has planned a full-season program for 2012 with more scrimmages and new opportunities for interleague play. The response has already been overwhelming, with the number of skater Brats almost doubling since September. Coach Hyde and the ARG trainers put the girls to work: perfecting their crossovers, nailing their four-point falls, and leaving with offskates homework. What these girls—many of them new to skating and derby—accomplished in just two hours on the first day was truly astonishing. If you know an aspiring derby girl, age 7-17 years, send her our way. Practices are held once a week on Saturday mornings.

Atlanta Rollergirls Lead the Way

Georgia Magazine spotlighted the Atlanta Rollergirls in their January 2012 issue. The article covers roller derby's rise across the state, which started right here with ARG in 2004. With these tough women in charge, it's no wonder that the time-tested Atlanta Rollergirls remain a powerhouse in our region and nationwide.  Read the full article online here

Girl Scout COOOOKIESSSS!!!

The Atlanta Rollergirls strive to be strong role models (or roll models) for the young women in our community. The Girl Scouts of America strive to develop girls into independent, strong women. The Atlanta Rollergirls like cookies. The Girl Scouts sell cookies. That can only lead to one thing.....Girl Scout cookies at our February bout. Hurtie Gertie's daughter, Atlanta Derby Brat Emily Hit-N-Son, and her Daisy Scout troop will have a booth in the courtyard. So bring your cash to get your Girl Scout cookie fix (boxes are $3.50 each).
