Hawai‘i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance identifying a theft suspect who stole from a Kailua-Kona establishment.

A Big Island resident died during an incident over the weekend in which five people apparently suffered from fentanyl poisoning at a hotel in Waikīkī.

Halemaʻumaʻu Crater at the summit of Kilauea volcano is erupting, producing a burst of volcanic emissions starting at 4:44 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Hawai‘i Island police seek suspect in Kona theft investigation

On April 18 at about 10:24 a.m., it was reported that an unidentified male entered a Kailua-Kona business in the at 73-5000 block of Olowalu Street and stole numerous items. The suspect then fled the area in a silver four-door sedan.

Big Island man among victims identified in fentanyl deaths at Waikīkī hotel

Steven Berengue, 53 of Kailua-Kona, was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as one of the two people who died. Berengue was found Sunday after emergency responders were called to the Outrigger Reef Waikīkī Beach Resort at around midnight about a possible overdose with multiple victims.
