A gender equal future is possible but it is not guaranteed!
The 2022 SDG Gender Index revealed that global progress was not happening at the pace, scale or intensity needed to achieve gender equality throughout the SDGs by the deadline of 2030.
But there is hope! Many countries are making progress and there are clear trends and actions propelling this progress that we can learn from. These actions include investing (both money and power) into feminist movements, shifting power and leadership to women and girls, and closing the gender data gaps, amongst others. We've pulled them together in our 6 point Blueprint for Change.
Implementing these actions can pave the way for a gender equal future and are key to accelerating progress across the SDGs. Gender equality is implicitly embedded within every goal in the 2030 Agenda and as such the specific situation of women and girls can act as a bellwether for progress on issues targeted by the SDGs.
This is the message I will be bringing to the 2023 Women Deliver Conference next week. I'm excited to be joining fellow coalition members and advocates from around the world to continue to sound the alarm on global progress towards gender equality and the power of feminist factivism to drive change and accountability.
If you’re planning to attend in person, please pop over to our booth in the Square tent to have a chat with me, the secretariat team, and our coalition members. Please also join me at the Accountability of Gender Equality Commitments plenary on Tuesday July 18th at 3.30pm EST where I will be speaking alongside other gender advocates on how to hold leaders accountable, explore gaps and propose solutions.
If you're not attending in-person, we've compiled a bunch of resources for you to get involved in raising your voice from wherever you are in the world - check them out below and join us in whatever way you can to demand a gender equal future!
