Will the MAGA GOP cause America to default on its debt and crash the economy instead of doing what’s right and raising the debt limit?
MAGA takes its marching orders from its seditious leader, who during his CNN Town Hall instructed them, “I say to the Republicans out there—congressmen, senators—if they don’t give you massive cuts, you’re going to have to do a default”
MAGA congressional representatives take the same view. MAGA lawmakers are speaking out against the emerging deal on the debt ceiling even before its contents are publicly released.
MAGA extremists are urging Speaker McCarthy to stick with the legislation passed last month that makes massive cuts to VA and other safety net programs.
Here are some examples of MAGA representatives’ comments: “This is totally unacceptable, and it’s not what we agreed to,” said MAGA Rep. Ralph Norman, a top member of the so-called “Freedom Caucus.” MAGA Rep. Bob Good said the deal would raise the debt ceiling more than the bill approved by the house. MAGA Rep. Andy Harris said, “You’ve got to add things into it, not compromise things away.”
Our bet is that even if McCarthy cuts a deal, his MAGA representatives will not accept it.
We suggest going around MAGA using a discharge petition. To bring the issue to a vote, a majority of the House members have to sign a petition. All Democratic House members have signed. Only five GOP members need to sign the petition to obtain a majority.
Until shown differently, we shouldn’t assume that all GOP House members will fall in lockstep with the MAGA extremists. There must be at least five patriotic Republicans who will sign the discharge position thus putting the best interests of America ahead of the power politics of the MAGA extremists.
