Highgate School Planning Applications - Public meeting
Thursday 8th June 2023 6.45 pm for 7.00 pm
St Michael's Primary School, North Road, Highgate, N6 4BG and on Zoom
The recent planning applications by Highgate School have aroused considerable interest and concern among our members and the wider Highgate community. When taken as a whole, they will make a substantial difference to Highgate especially during the next 10 year construction period. If you didn’t see our email about the Highgate School planning applications, please click here to see a copy and visit highgatesociety.com for fuller details of the proposals.
The Highgate Society has organised a public meeting, which will be chaired by Catherine West MP to facilitate further consultations and a better understanding between the Highgate community and the School.. For full details of how to participate clickhere.
Archway Campus
We understand that Seven Capital are in the process of arranging a further and final round of community consultations. See the leaflet attached for information
They will be holding an exhibition preview on Monday 5th June 6pm – 8pm at the Archway Methodist Church, but this is only intended for nearby residents. The evening will include a brief presentation from the design team, taking residents through an updated scheme and the key changes that have been made. We have had no indication that the height of the tower will be reduced from its present 36 storeys.
Subsequently on the 6th June, there will be a wider public exhibition at the same venue from 3.30pm – 7.30pm.
Neighbourhood Forum designation renewal
Neighbourhood Forums have to reapply for designation to their respective Councils - in our case Camden and Haringey - every five years and this procedure has now come around again. It would be really helpful if as many people as possible wrote in support of the application. Responses should be made by Friday 23 June to Camden (email planningpolicy@camden.gov.uk) or Haringey (email planning.policy@haringey.gov.uk) according to which Borough you live in.
Suggested wording for your email:
I support the redesignation of the Neighbourhood Forum. Highgate is one community and the coordination of cross border activity through the Neighbourhood Plan is very important.
[Include your name and address, making sure you are sending your email of support to the right borough according to where you live.]
Be advised of Camden licensing applications
Although neighbours are told of planning applications, they are not told about licensing applications. So you will only find out that your local pub wants to, for example, open later or have live music, if you notice the application placed outside the premises or advertised in the local paper. We made a deputation to Camden Licensing Committee asking that they introduce a system for letting local residents know. So the Society is very pleased that Camden has introduced an option on its licensing page for residents to sign up to be notified of any licensing application in their Ward. If you would like to be told of applications near you it is easy to sign up at Camden.gov.uk/licensing . We are asking Haringey to make a similar arrangement.
