10th Annual Korean Film Festival Canada

Montreal, Quebec, May 30, 2023: Arts East-West presents 10th annual edition of the Korean Film Festival Canada began its tour in three Canadian cities on May 15. The KFFC 10 showcases over 60 Asian and Asian Canadian films, with a focus on Korean, Asian Canadian, Filipino and American cinema, along with a selection of Asian media arts.
With the continued theme of “Asian Art: Environments of Sustainability and Resilience II,” Arts East-West celebrates its rich 27-year history, while shifting its focus towards more art films and ultimately becoming an Asian Art Film Festival.
The Festival will run until June 4 at the McCord Stewart Museum, Cinéma du Parc, and Dazibao. The Festival will continue in Vancouver and Kingston until July 2, 2023. Kindly find the schedule for each day below.
Last night, KFFC 10's Asian media and film presentations at Dazibao served as a platform for young people to discover Asian media arts and short films, here are some snapshots:

The GEW (Gallery East-West) opened on May 27, 2023 at the Dazibao Gallery in conjunction with the 10th edition of Korean Film Festival Canada (KFFC). An excellent array of work from 11 Asian Media Artists with a focus on the theme of "Asian Art: Environments of Resilience and Sustainability" have been selected for the this year’s GEW. Through this theme, we aim to explore how we live individually and collectively with nature as a global body, and to challenge existing notions of 'environment.' In addition to the physical aspects of space, we seek to embrace other elements such as intersectional human relationships, circumstances, ecological communities, and more, in order to encourage a greater understanding of our environment in all its complexity. *The Asian Shorts Program and Asian Media Arts are available free of charge, however, it is important to reserve your spot in advance due to limited seats*.

Scarborough explores the struggles, endurance, and resilience of this culturally diverse Toronto community through the lives of three kids growing up within a system that has set them up for failure. Filmed on location in the Kingston - Galloway/West Hill neighbourhood, Scarborough takes place over the course of a school year. Based on the award - winning novel Scarborough by Catherine Hernandez.

KFFC/AEW Public's Choice Awards is a new initiative inspired by our organization's donation elements of Soil, Cloud, East-West and Wave. Vote for your favorite feature film, short film, and/or media artwork, and help determine the winners who will receive a cash prize and a special BOJAGI, a traditional Korean hand-made quilt. The results will be revealed after the Montreal portion of #KFFC10 on June 4.
Public Votes
We invite the audience to select a film or media art in each category to each screening and presentation. The audience is requested to hand in their vote(s) for each art work after screening. Our KFFC staff members at the information desks at all three locations- McCord Stewart Museum, Cinema du Parc and Dazibao, will be happy to assist you if you have any questions.
Please note that ten Korean Classic films are offered for free online on Youtube. This section will not be a part of the voting for the AEW Public's Choice Awards.

This year, we have determined to put all donations to the launch of AEW Awards of People's Choice for remarkable works that are invited to present at the 10th anniversary of KFFC, 2023. There are four categories of donation. Donations are open from May 22nd until June 3rd, 2023, 12:00pm EST.

The schedule for each city and venue are as follows:
MONTREAL: May 26 to June 4 at McCord Stewart Museum, Cinéma du Parc and Dazibao
KINGSTON: June 9 and 10 at Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning
VANCOUVER: May 15 to July 2 at The Cinematheque.

Le 10e Festival du film coréen du Canada

Montréal, Québec, 30 mai 2023 : Arts Est-Ouest présente la 10e édition annuelle du Festival du Film Coréen du Canada, qui a commencé sa tournée dans trois villes canadiennes le 15 mai. Le FFCC 10 présente plus de 60 films asiatiques et canadiens d'origine asiatique, en mettant l'accent sur le cinéma coréen, canadien d'origine asiatique, philippin et américain, ainsi qu'une sélection d'arts médiatiques asiatiques.
En continuité avec le thème « Art asiatique : Environnements de durabilité et de résilience II », Arts Est-Ouest célèbre ses 27 ans d'histoire, tout en se concentrant sur les films d'art et en devenant un festival du film d'art asiatique.
Le festival se poursuivra jusqu'au 4 juin au Musée McCord Stewart, au Cinéma du Parc et à Dazibao. Le festival se poursuivra à Vancouver et à Kingston jusqu'au 2 juillet 2023. Veuillez trouver ci-dessous le programme pour chaque journée.

Des projections de plus de 30 oeuvres et courts métrages asiatiques et canadiens seront co-présentés en partenariat avec Dazibao, une gallerie d’art contemporaine de Montréal qui fait la promotion de pratiques d’images expérimentales et provocatrices d’idées depuis plus de 43 ans. Leur excellent éventail de travail parmi lesquels ont été sélectionnés 11 artistes médiatiques et 12 oeuvres ayant pour focus le thème “Art asiatique: Environnement de Résilience et de Durabilité” feront partie de la sélection GEW de cette année. À travers ce thème, nous espérons explorer comment nous vivons individuellement et collectivement avec la nature en un corps global, en questionnant les notions actuelles de l’”environnement”. En plus de l’aspect de l’espace, nous souhaitons embrasser d’autres éléments comme les relations humaines intersectionnelles, les circonstances, les communautés écologiques, et plus, de sorte d’encourager une meilleure compréhension de notre environnement dans toute sa complexité.*Le programme "Asian Shorts" et "Asian Media Arts" sont disponibles gratuitement, cependant il est important de réserver votre place à l'avance en raison du nombre limité de sièges.*

Le premier long métrage du réalisateur basé à Vancouver, Jason Karman, est un drame classique sur l'adolescence à l'ère numérique. Tout le monde veut quelque chose de Jake (Cardi Wong), un étudiant en dernière année de lycée : son père le pousse à rejoindre l'équipe de basketball, un rêve personnel abandonné, et sa petite amie veut faire évoluer leur relation. Mais ce n'est qu'après l'arrivée d'Aleks (Chris Carson), un adolescent ouvertement gay et passionné de basketball qui emménage de l'autre côté de la rue que Jake commence à lutter avec ses propres désirs.

À la fin de chaque film, vous serez libre de déterminer dans quelle catégorie le film que vous venez de regarder se classe ! Ne vous sentez pas obligé de choisir une catégorie si vous ne pensez pas que le film correspond à l'une d'entre elles. Choisissez parmi quatre catégories de dons : Soil, Wave, Cloud et East-West, symbolisant votre connexion avec la nature.
Les dons seront acceptés jusqu'au 3 juin 2023 à 12h00 HNE.
Votre contribution aura un impact significatif, car le montant total des dons sera réparti entre 15 lauréats des longs métrages, des courts métrages asiatiques, des arts médiatiques asiatiques et des artistes émergents au KFFC 10, tels que votés par le public de Montréal (les festivaliers).
