Outdoor Afro is celebrating Black Birders week in partnership with Nearby Nature. Nationally recognized environmental leader, Sierra Taliaferro is leading this bird walk. You don't need any prior birding experience or binoculars to enjoy this outing, just a desire to get outdoors with friends. Registration is encouraged.
Outdoor Afro celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. They connect Black people with lands, water, and wildlife through outdoor education, recreation, and conservation. The Madison/Iowa Chapter is mostly based in Madison and Dubuque but they want to connect with folks here in Milwaukee. Visit their website: www.outdoorafro.org to learn more.

Sierra Taliaferro to also lead Sunday Bird Outing
Sunday June 4th, 10 am, 4410 N Hopkins
Honoring Black Birder’s Week, Nearby Nature is featuring a guided bird walk in Hopkins Hollow led by our illustrious board member Sierra Taliaferro. Black Birders Week started in 2020 as a way for Black Birders to create a safe space in the outdoors for people of color. According to a press statement by www.BlackAFinSTEM, we seek "to normalize the historically overlooked presence of Black birders, scientists and nature enthusiasts and make the natural sciences more inclusive, diverse and welcoming". We welcome all our friends to join us in this outing. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair of ours. We’ll also be sharing our summer plans for wildlife monitoring and restoration. Please let us know you're coming and sign-up here.
