First Sunday after Pentecost:
Trinity Sunday

___________________________________________________________________

June 4, 2023

Dear friends,

Can you believe that it is already June!?  Our program year is coming to a close and the dog days of summer lie ahead.  Please be sure that you noted a week from this Sunday, June 11, we will have one worship service at 10:00 a.m. followed by our annual Parish Picnic.  Then, BEGINNING JUNE 18, we will move to our Summer Schedule of ONE service at 9:00 a.m.  This will run through Labor Day Weekend.

June is also Pride month, and it fills my heart with joy that St. John's is a community where we celebrate the diversity of God's creation and where all  people are not only welcome, but loved.  The message that God loves you, no matter what, is critical for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly our youth.  For so many of these siblings of ours all they have ever heard from the Church is that they are not welcome, wanted or loved, or even worse, that God hates them.  I don't think that it is a coincidence that this segment of our community has the highest addiction and suicide rates than any other.  Please join me this month as we celebrate with Pride, the diversity of God's world, and if you know someone who desperately needs to hear the Good News that God loves them, invite them to join you at Church.

Grace and peace,
Fr. Jeremy

St. Stephen's Fund

Please make a donation to help St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Douglas, Arizona rebuild.  Their building was a total loss after an arsonist set fire on Monday, May 22.  The Church is believed to have been targeted because of its work with refugees crossing the southern border.  Please keep this community in your prayers.
To make a donation, please click here and select "St. Stephen's Fund" in the "Fund" dropdown menu, OR place a check in the offering plate on Sunday and write "St. Stephen's Fund" in the memo line.

Sunday, June 11, 2023

Invite a friend and join us for fun & fellowship at our annual Parish Picnic.  Please bring a side dish or desert to share.  The Vestry will provide hamburgers and hotdogs.

We still looking for volunteers to help set-up before Mass - manage the grill - and to clean up afterwards.  Please contact Fr. Jeremy or the Parish Office to volunteer.

If you have any entertainment or game ideas, please let us know.

PLEASE NOTE:
There will be ONE Mass at 10:00 a.m. with the picnic immediately following on the front lawn.

The Collect for First Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God,
for ever and
ever. Amen.

Welcome, Invite, Connect

Summer Open Forum- The vestry's next open forum will take place Sunday, June 4th following each of the services.  The summer forum will focus on bringing in newcomers.
The vestry will share what they've learned from their book study: Welcome, Invite, Connect, and parishioners can share their ideas on how to begin this important journey.  All voices are welcome and encouraged to join in these informal discussions.
Ways to Give

Remember that there are several ways to make your pledge and offerings to St. John's.  You may put it in the offering plate if you are attending worship in-person.  Or you may mail a check to:

St. John the Evangelist
P.O. Box 25
Flossmoor, IL 60422

Or by setting up automatic bill pay through your bank (this is a free service of most banks).

Or by clicking on the "Online Giving" button above.  If you give online, please consider clicking the box that allows you to add 3% to cover the processing fees from the credit card companies.

The Altar Flowers
are given this week to the glory of God

by the congregation
of St. John's.

What if you had a way to give free money to the work and ministry of St. John's?  Well there is!

By signing up with RaiseRight you can do your shopping (at most of the stores you are already shopping at) with prepaid cards and RaiseRight offers a percentage of what you spend back to St. John's.  There is NO cost to you.

This is also a great way to purchase gift cards to give as birthday or Christmas presents, or just a little something for yourself.

To sign up, please contact Pat Smith-Huntoon at sjescrip@gmail.com.

The next RaiseRight order will be submitted at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11th.
