Treʻ Evans-Dumaran died at age 24 in early February after responding to a call to remove debris and create a safer water flow for the residents of Kihei, Maui. He was swept into the ocean for approximately 800 yards through a storm drain and died in the hospital more than a week later.

A solemn Memorial Day ceremony was held at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao on Monday.
