Dear <<First Name>>,
Hello Urban Wildlife Gardeners.
I hope you are enjoying your native gardens and getting pleasure from the creatures that call this part of Australia home. And we also hope we are providing you with some assistance and encouragement in your efforts to reinforce our local biodiversity
The Urban Wildlife Garden program has had a slightly checkered career. Starting in 2017 an intended funding application failed to leave the launch pad, but this was quickly followed up successfully, still in 2017, with a Scoping study “Garden for Wildlife” in Noosa.
The scoping study established the justification and framework of the current Urban Wildlife Gardens program that was funded by Noosa Council in 2018.
Development has been steady since then thanks in no small way to the continued financial support of Noosa Council.
Relatively recently the Working Group (WG) has been bolstered by the addition of Vanessa Presling and Shaun Walsh who bring with them a suite of skills and experience that is particularly relevant to UWG.
One of the things we have undertaken is an assessment of the roles and responsibilities of the WG as a whole and allocating the roles to individuals. The position of ‘Chair’ has been taken on by Shaun, Secretariat functions by Tony, and Vanessa has taken on the lead in Promotions and Communication.
Stephanie Haslam’s involvement in Facebook is to continue. Workshops, events and site visits will be handled by ‘Champions’ from the Working Group. Kay Southam and Keron Hilton will take on support roles around events and member activities as required. There will also be opportunities to engage with UWG members broadly in supporting activities they want to promote.
Michelle Newall will continue to engage with new members in providing advice about their garden and particular regional ecosystem. To help with communications and promotions we are engaging with Danielle Taylor from Firefly Solutions.
Finally, we are improving our forward planning, and are hoping to add more variety in events and improve our engagement with all of you.
Our next workshop on June 17th is ‘Best Plants for Attracting Wildlife’ with Shaun Walsh and Michelle Newall. Read about it in this Newsletter and we are looking forward to seeing you there.
