Prison property tax bill stalls

Prison closures in the Adirondacks and around the state continue to be an issue for state lawmakers.

Last week, state Sen. Dan Stec, R-Queensbury, ushered legislation through the Senate that would authorize a constitutional amendment for Camp Gabriels. Camp Gabriels, a Franklin County prison closed in 2009, cannot be redeveloped by a private entity without a constitutional amendment. The property is now technically on forest preserve, lands the state cannot sell or lease. A constitutional amendment has passed the Senate multiple times, but it hasn’t passed the state Assembly. 56th annual Chazy Old Home Day Festival set for July 22

Essex County Arts Council announces 2023 Cultural Assistance Program (CAP) Grant recipients

The Essex County Arts Council (ECAC) is pleased to announce the 2023 Cultural Assistance Program (CAP) Grant recipients.  Grants totaling $37,500 to support specific projects have been awarded to over 50 organizations providing cultural arts experiences for Essex County residents. The CAP Grant is funded by Essex County and private donors.

Gov. Hochul announces grants awarded to state parks, trails, and historic sites

On May 24, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $1.8 million in grants to support 28 not-for-profit organizations involved with stewardship of state parks, trails, historic sites and public lands, the highest amount awarded in the Park and Trail Partnership Grants program history. The grants support partner group efforts to raise private funds for capital projects, engage in maintenance and beautification projects, provide educational programming, and host special events that promote public use of the parks.
