62nd London-Leiden Conference
Unity in Diversity: Promoting and defending the Rule of Law as a foundational value in EU and UK

Saturday 24 June 2023 | 09.30 - 15.30
British Institute of International and Comparative Law, Charles Clore House, 17 Russell Square, London WC1B 5JP

As an EU core value, the Rule of Law (ROL) should inform the implementation of policies at the Union and MS levels, but this carries with it important challenges. Despite departure from the EU, effectively as of 1 January 2021, the UK continues to be committed to the ROL as a core constitutional principle. Four eminent panels featuring a wide range of speakers from government, international organizations, academia, and legal practitioners will explore how ROL considerations and safeguards operate in practice and the related challenges in the framework of different policy areas in the EU and in the UK. These issues, and possible ways to overcome them, will be discussed in the upcoming 62nd session of the London-Conference, on 24 June 2023.

Panels:

  • The Rule of Law and Democratic Processes
  • A ROL dimension of economic policies
  • The Rule of Law and judicial independence
