Parody/Fake Culpeper PD Facebook Page

A Message to Virginia Police Chiefs / Sheriffs from Culpeper Police Chief Chris Settle:

Approximately two weeks ago a citizen created a “satire/parody” Facebook account that is titled Culpeper Police Department. This page is being used to troll other law enforcement and government agencies, news organizations, and public forums by commenting on posts as the Culpeper Police Department. The page is currently following multiple law enforcement and government agencies across Virginia and along the East Coast. On Monday 05/22/23 information was sent to all Virginia LE agencies and the MDWATCH via our Crime Analyst, but the parody site has since increased its trolling efforts. I have received multiple calls from Chiefs, Sheriffs, and PIO’s from various law enforcement agencies about unprofessional posts on their respective Facebook pages, with the appearance it is coming from our official governmental Facebook page.
The site creator and moderator is Chad James Robison, W/M, DOB 10/16/1976. We’re attached images of the “fake” Culpeper Police Department site as well as Mr. Robison’s personal page, along with links below. Our official Facebook page profile photo is a photograph of our badge and (which the parody page is using as their cover photo without permission), and we do not make trolling comments or openly solicit your officers/deputies. We are currently working with Meta to have the page removed, and are exploring criminal charges. If you find comments from the fake page on your accounts, we would appreciate it if your agency would send our Public Information Officer Master Police Officer Julia Cole at JCole@culpeperva.gov a screenshot of the comment for our files. Some agencies have chosen to preemptively block this parody site while others have chosen to hide the comments from public view, depending on their social media policies.
