Dear <<First Name>>,

There are some opportunities to get out and get involved this month coming up quickly, so we decided to send a quick update! Scroll down to see if any of these work for you. More opportunities will be published in our June newsletter coming out mid-June, and you can always look to our
calendar for even more opportunities from our partners.
TOMORROW: Come get a free tree!

Your Neighborhood Christmas Tree Farm is on its 17th year of giving away free trees! To help combat global warming and climate change, they are giving away 310 small seedling trees to give away this summer, starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3rd. The event will run until all the trees are given away. Their 9100th tree was given away last year!

No need to sign up, just stop on by!

Learn more about tree types and how to plant and care for trees here. You can also find resources on planting and tree care from the Tree Trust's tree give-away in April. Mark your calendars for Your Neighborhood Christmas Tree Farm's and the Boulder Tree Trust giveaways next year too!

+Act and Learn: Come hike with us on June 9th!

Our theme last month was biodiversity, and Cool Boulder is excited to offer a fascinating exploration of the rich, vibrant biological diversity present near Boulder! We will learn why such biodiversity is present, and we will consider its role in our communities' and ecosystems' adaptability and resilience amid changing climate and challenging times.

When: Friday, June 9th from 9-11:30 am in Chautauqua Park

There is room for 15 people on this free educational hike. It is best suited for adults and children over 8 years old, and we will cover 1.5 to 2 miles of moderate terrain. Learn more here.

+Community Science: Do you take your dog on daily walks?
We need your help!

Each of us and our pets are exposed to a variety of volatile chemicals during daily activities in and outside our homes. Many of these chemicals are safe, produced by natural processes from plants, soil and animals. But, we’re also exposed to a range of synthetic chemicals from personal care products to cleaners. These chemicals can be carried home on paws and fur and spread to other family members by indirect contact.

The University of Colorado Boulder, the City of Boulder, and Cool Boulder are recruiting 40 city of Boulder residents with dogs to participate in a one-week long study. Participants will wear a chemical monitoring wristband and clip on their dog's collar to help us learn more about personal and animal exposure to environmental chemicals. Find more details here!

+Volunteer: Helping victims of the Marshall Fire and biodiversity!

Adopt-A-Neighbor is helping victims of the Marshall Fire who are returning to their homes and rebuilding yards. They need 5-6 volunteers to help with logistics and tasks at an event on Saturday, June 10th from 10am-4pm. This will be the first of a series of events helping rebuild victim's yards in a fire-resilient and biodiversity-friendly way. Look for more opportunities to help out in the fall too!

Please note this event is not for public participation, but anyone can volunteer to help!

Planting Rain: An Evening with Rainwater Harvesting Pioneer, Brad Lancaster (free!)

Are you interested in how we can use our rainwater more efficiently? Cool Boulder is excited to offer you an evening with rainwater harvesting pioneer, Brad Lancaster, sharing stories and inspiring examples of how rainwater harvesting could help create landscapes and communities that are resilient to climate change and healthier and happier places to live!

Recognizing that Colorado’s future climate will much more closely resemble places like New Mexico, we need to learn from those who have already been adapting to a limited ground/surface water future. Brad will share the emerging lessons and best practices that are reshaping both the way we approach infrastructure development and water policy, both in his native home of Tucson, AZ and elsewhere. Learn about specific approaches being taken in other communities and examples of household and community projects that are easily implemented at both levels.

This event is free, but you must register on this Eventbrite page to attend in-person, due to space limitations. If you are not able to attend in-person, or are not available on the evening of Thursday, June 29th, this event will also be livestreamed and recorded and will be hosted on the Cool Boulder websiteLearn more here!
