Kar and Grace from Canine Adoption & Rescue League
Canine Adoption and Rescue  (C.A.R.L.) announces the return of its Pooch Parade! The 2023 Pooch Parade Dog Walk and Pet Expo takes place on Sunday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ventura Harbor Village, 1575 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura. The public is encouraged to come and play with adoptable dogs of all breeds and sizes and bring their pets dressed up as the superhero of their choice.

“We’re thrilled to return to Ventura Harbor Village for the Pooch Parade,” says C.A.R.L. Executive Director Sharon L. Clark. “The pandemic halted our activities for the past four years, but we are ready to bring this fun, family-friendly event back to the community this summer.”

This year’s theme is “Superheroes,” and attendees are welcome to dress up their dogs and cats as their favorite fictional comic book character like “Superman,” “Blade,” or “Wonder Woman” or “Captain America” for a costume contest. The event will also feature a DJ, vendors, an agility course, arts and crafts, a silent auction to benefit C.A.R.L. and more.

Members of the press are encouraged to cover the 2023 Pooch Parade on the day of the event at Ventura Harbor Village. Members of the C.A.R.L. leadership team are available to provide interviews at the Pooch Parade. Members of the press can also shoot a story at our location in Santa Paula by contacting us at the information in this news release.

C.A.R.L. is located in Ventura County, California and primarily serves Ventura County dogs. Because of our lifetime commitment to our dogs, we have a preference to place dogs locally so we are available to them if needed. We rely on donations and do not receive government, state or city funding. We operate almost entirely by volunteers.

Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all breed, no-kill dog rescue and adoption organization. Since 1996, C.A.R.L. has rescued and placed thousands of unwanted, sick, abandoned and homeless dogs. Dogs in our adoption program are placed in pre-screened, loving and secure homes. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our dogs.

 We are so happy to report that Topa and Wilson are finally back at home with their family and foster mom. It was a really bumpy ride, but they are doing great! Every day they are getting stronger. They are such resilient pups! 

Words cannot express our deep appreciation to our C.A.R.L. family for coming to the rescue and helping us fund their care. We are still thousands of dollars in the hole to pay for these pups, but every dollar has been worth it. Any additional funds you can spare will help us close the gap. And of course we have so many other dogs that need our support. 

While we are saddened by the loss of a few of the pups, we are grateful for the expert care the others received, keeping them alive and helping them beat this horrible sickness. Thank you again for your continued support!

Sailor and Friends dog adoption event, May 6, 2023
It was a lovely day in Ventura at our monthly dog adoption event at Sailor and Friends. Led by the master Toni, in attendance were volunteers Christina, Kai, Jose and Kathy. Our fur babies in attendance were Mia, Dodger, Olive, Leo, Jade, Ember, Mookie, Izzy, Nellie and Raddish. Leo’s foster, Kevin was also
in attendance. We had lots of activity.. Mia got adopted that day and poor little lonely Dodger was adopted and reunited with Mia subsequently. Hallelujah! I learned that our rescue Canela from April’s event who had been fostered by Becky got adopted. Hurray! We received a couple of applications for
one of my favorite girls, Olive. However, the one first in line is on vacation until August. Stay tuned. Also, we received an application for Raddish. However, on further review, the potential adopter’s planned on keeping Raddish in their garage. Please bear in mind, these babies are family members, not used cars or
lawnmowers. If that is your plan, please apply elsewhere. CARL is homing family members, not old paint cans. We received $5 in donations. Thank-you! We will be back next month on June 3, 2023. Please stop by and meet our volunteers and fur babies while you shop with Marnie at Sailor and Friends.

May 20th PetFood Express, Thousand Oaks. Thanks so much to Jose, Kathy and Kai for bringing us such a good array of dogs. Sugar Bear, Zozo, Dodger, Everest, Olive. They all had such a good time, good walks, lots of attention and treats. And I know they send their thanks to Jerry and Tracy for the extra good walks. Toni was there to help set up, Rick came for tear down. Thanks to Jose and Kathy for the pizza! We talked to a lot of people introducing them to CARL and passing out brochures. Hopefully there will be some foster apps on line. Thank you Catherine for setting this all up and for all you do.  We collected $65. See you all again June 17.

  • June 21: National Dachshund Day. Always held on the summer solstice, this day celebrates these long dogs on the longest day of the year.

Adoptions TEAM

The Adoptions Team volunteers help at the Adoption Center, Mobile Events, Private Companies events, Pet Care Center & Foster Care. We have adoption events all over Ventura County from Port Hueneme to Newbury Park. They are held on Saturdays &  Sundays at different locations. You can see the adoption events schedule on the CARL website "events calendar."

Outreach & Community Support TEAM

Volunteer orientations are now being conducted online. After completely filing out the CARL volunteer application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION. You will be contacted by email to attend an online orientation, presented by a CARL volunteer via Zoom.
