Join us for the YPC Academy Class of 2023 Graduation!
Hello!

This is David Vance (they/them), Senior Manager of Advocacy and Civic Engagement at The Center, and I'm excited to share about our Young Professionals Council (YPC) Academy graduation taking place during LGBTQ Pride Month!

At the start of 2023, we were overjoyed to bring back our YPC Academy program after a hiatus during the pandemic. Even though this was the first YPC Academy session that The Center has hosted in a few years, we received the largest, most diverse, and most competitive applicant pool in the history of the YPC program, which has resulted in an incredibly engaged and inspiring 2023 YPC cohort!

Over the past several months and several Academy sessions, it’s been such a joy to watch the 2023 cohort connect, build transformative connections, and learn from one another. While the Academy brings a wide array of presentations, skill-building exercises, and trainings to the cohort, oftentimes, our participants find that the most rewarding parts of the YPC Academy are the relationships they form with each other.

Each year’s YPC Academy culminates in a joyous and celebratory graduation ceremony that honors the cohort and their accomplishments while also raising the necessary funds for the following year’s YPC Academy. The ceremony is largely planned by the cohort and is an opportunity for them to practice what they’ve learned and celebrate their hard work, while also paying it forward and ensuring the success of the following year’s Academy and the next group of up-and-coming leaders.

The 2023 YPC Academy graduation ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Mujeres Brewhouse from 6pm-8pm. Whether you’re a YPC alumni, have a personal connection to one of our cohort members, would like to learn more about the YPC program, or care about supporting emerging LGBTQ leaders in our region, we encourage you to come out to uplift and honor our next generation of LGBTQ leaders in San Diego.
Buy a YPC Graduation Ticket or Sponsorship
Our 2023 cohort represents a diverse range of professions and interests within the LGBTQ justice movement. From medical students to grassroots organizers to therapists to military pilots to direct service providers, our YPC Academy participants are ready to make a lasting impact on behalf of our community in countless arenas. We are so excited to see all the great things they will continue to accomplish and to honor them at their graduation!

Tickets start at $25 and sponsorship levels start at $250, which can be purchased online. All proceeds go to support the YPC Academy; I look forward to seeing you at the 2023 YPC Graduation on June 28 from 6pm-8pm!

EARN A REWARD FOR VOLUNTEERING
TO SAVE ENERGY

Help make California’s energy grid stronger, safer and more reliable for all Californians this summer – and get a reward for it too! The Power Saver Rewards program pays you for lowering your electricity use when energy is in high demand. When the temperatures rise, it pays to be flexible.

Here is how it works: On hot summer days, as more people use energy to stay cool, the electrical grid can become strained due to high demand. When this occurs, the statewide grid operator may call a Flex Alert or other grid emergency. As a result, the Power Saver Rewards program may be activated to help reduce energy use and strain on the grid.

If you are eligible and reduce your energy use during a Power Saver event between the on-peak hours of 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., you could receive a bill credit of $2.00/kWh. And the best part? The more energy you conserve, the more you can save! There are no penalties if you can’t conserve energy during an event, and you can opt-out of the program at any time.

If saving on your monthly energy bill, helping improve grid reliability and contributing to a cleaner environment sound good to you, the Power Saver Rewards program may be the right fit for your home. To learn more about this program, visit sdge.com/PowerSaver or call 1. 866. 291.9516.
