Sunday Parties – Welcome to Camp!
MC – Adony
xx
The 2023 Sunday evening parties will begin at 7pm with a short orientation, then welcome everyone to camp with a wide variety of dances.

This year's teachers will lead some of their well known dances, sharing pointers on patterns, styling, and rhythm. You'll have a chance to meet and chat with faculty and campers alike during the various mixers throughout the evening. Of course, our fabulous band, Chubritza, will play during the party.

Each Sunday party will feature some different dances for those at Camp both weeks.

We know there are many people who can't make it to Camp this year. We will be sharing both Sunday parties via Zoom. Registration info coming soon.

Wednesday Parties – Memories New and Old
MC - Bob

We'll kick off the evening by taking our annual class portraits, with many photo ops throughout the evening for you and your friends.

The party continues with dances you've learned the first two days, a couple of live sets from Chubritza, and some of your recorded favorites from the deep and great history of Stockton Folk Dance Camp. As a bonus, the AfterParty then begins with another Chubritza live set followed by your recorded favorites until we go to bed.

Each Wednesday party will feature different material, so you'll have a wide variety of dances to take part in.

First Saturday Party – Croatian Party: Pentecostal Queens from Bačka
MCs –Željko and Karlene

On the seventh Sunday after Easter, Pentecost, the traditional custom of "Queens of the Ghosts" is still observed in the village of Bački Brijeg (region of Vojvodina in Serbia), where Bačka Croats live. Young girls select "Kings" and "Queens" amongst themselves to form a procession of singing and dancing through the village. Villagers await them outside their homes with gifts, believing a visit from "queens" will bring them good fortune and prosperity.

Mixed in with the dances we've learned, music from Chubritza, and other fun, Željko will host a great Croatian party, starting off with an authentic dinner, performance, and history. More will be shared when we're at Camp, so get ready for a wonderful Croatian experience.

For those who want to continue dancing, we'll end with our last AfterParty of the week and then get ready for the second week of Camp.

Second Saturday Party – Hawaiian Lu'au,
MCs – Kau'i and Karlene

Closing out our second week of Camp, we'll be mentally traveling to Polynesia, experiencing its food, dance, music, and song of Hawaii. Kau'i, our Polynesian teacher, is sharing meal ideas with the Camp's kitchen staff to make sure the food meets up with the great tastes of Polynesia. If you're an ukulele player, bring your uke! There will be opportunities to sing and play along. In the week leading up to the party, you'll also be able to make your own lei, or if you'd prefer, bring one from home!

Following the evening's festivities, we'll have our last AfterParty of this year.

And There's More...

Of course, we'd love everyone to dress up for our parties. As with all things associated with Stockton Folk Dance Camp, please make sure that what you wear is appropriate in celebrating the cultures we love.

In addition to the above, we'll have our Once Over Lightly parties and dance reviews on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each will be followed by our famous AfterParties.

Poi Balls and Belts

What do Poi Balls and Belts have in common? You will use both of them at camp!

Kau'i will teach a class in Poi Balls. We will have some extra sets, but they are so much fun you may wish to have your own. Purchase your own set here or here.

You can also find instruction here on how to make your own!

Iliana's Bulgarian dance program will include belt dances. Experience the magic of connecting to your fellow dancers with this unique hold. (Ed. note: You're on your own for where to purchase belts. 🙂)
