Knightlife

An update from T.R. and Angie Knight
Serving with SIL International - Language Technology

Rachel's wedding bouquet of blue and white flowers.

June 2023 - Wedding, Budgets, and Proposals! Oh my! June has been a very busy month in the Knight household. The month started fast with us finishing up 2024 budget proposals and getting them submitted to the finance team before T.R. took vacation time for the wedding.

Months of planning and a furious final week of preparations culminated in a beautiful wedding. Our daughter, Rachel, married her college sweetheart, Sam, in a small, intimate wedding hosted in our home. Our living room was magically converted into a small chapel and then quickly transformed into a reception hall after the ceremony as pictures were taken outside. Photos and more info about Sam and Rachel can be found below.

After cleaning up after the wedding and converting our living room and kitchen back into their less formal appearances, T.R. returned to a flurry of work on fundraising concept proposals for Language Technology projects. These concept proposals provide an overview of the project and Kingdom impact to help our fundraising teams better understand the work and ministry of Language Technology. They use this knowledge to help us seek financial partners who align with the projects.

After the whirlwind of wedding and financial work, a short respite was in order to rest and recover before returning to work on the official roadmaps and fundraising proposals for 2024.

God at Work

“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.” - Hudson Taylor

Here are some things He has done recently:

  • Ethnologue lists information on 7,168 languages. The website catalogs every language that is still in use today. Other resources may use an old or incomplete list — or they may show one “language” in place of what we know are many separate languages. With Ethnologue, you’re guaranteed to get the latest, most complete list of languages as recognized by the ISO 639 standard.

  • The new Paratext team members have onboarded and begun working with the team. Wonderful to see them jumping right in and having an impact.

  • We closed out June with two half days of meetings with the Paratext Advisory Council providing updates on the progress of Paratext 9.x, Paratext.Bible, and Platform.Bible and hearing from our user community their priorities for development on Paratext in the coming year.

I hope this small glimpse encourages you to see what God is doing through all of us serving at SIL International.

Prayer and Praise

  • Please pray for the Language Technology leadership team as we continue to seek a new Director of Language Software Development and a Project Manager.

  • Please pray for T.R. and his Talent Acquisition team as there continues to be a delay of the new Talent Acquisition Manager joining the team.

  • Praising God that all the teams’ 2024 budgets and funding concept proposals have been submitted for review.

  • Praising God that our daughter, Rachel, has accepted a position at Wilberforce University, starting at the end of July.

  • Praising God that Angie has finally gotten all her doctor appointments scheduled. She started physical therapy and next month will be meeting with the neuropsychologist for a follow-up evaluation.

  • Please let us know how can be praying for you!

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

In Him,
T.R. and Angie Knight

Celebrating a joyous wedding!

Our house before the wedding.

Here is what our house looked like before prepping for the wedding.

The miraculous conversion of our house to a wedding chapel. I came up with the curtain idea while Emily did the decorating.

Our friend Pastor Derek White (http://geekpreacher.org/) performed the ceremony.

And yes, Sam and Rachel Knight is correct. Sam has chosen to take on our family name which is a longer story than to tell here. Ask me some other time if you are interested.

How can you support the work we are doing with SIL International?

Glad you asked! T.R. is currently in a fully funded position in his role as Director of Bible Translation Software. The finances come from a funding organization devoted to innovation in Bible Translation. Because T.R.’s position is fully funded, we are not currently requesting you to partner with us financially. What we could use the most are your prayers and encouragement. If you would like to financially support the work that SIL does, you can give online or via check. Currently, online donations go to a central fund for SIL. We are in process of implementing a new online donation website that would allow you to give to my department’s projects or even to my work specifically. If you give via check, you can include in the note field a designation of Bible Translation Software - KBTD16. Thank you for your prayers and support.
