Dear <<First Name>>,

This week is BC Public Service Week!

I honour and appreciate the incredible dedication and selfless efforts of our public servants.

From healthcare workers to policy analysts, teachers, and firefighters, they work tirelessly to make our communities thrive. Thank you all for your unwavering commitment and spirit in ensuring our safety, education, and well-being. This week, let's show our gratitude and support for those who work tirelessly to make our communities stronger.

A special shout out to my amazing team within the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. It was so great to connect with so many of you earlier today.

It was my pleasure to be in Port Moody yesterday celebrating the kick-off of the next phase of the Inlet Sports Field Redevelopment Project with Mayor Meghan Lahti, Kwikwetlem First Nation, Port Moody Soccer Club and MP Bonita Zarrillo.

Sports connect people of all ages. Together with the federal government, the Province is investing over $6.2 million in community infrastructure that will improve people’s health and well-being, promote active lifestyles, and connect communities through culture and recreation.
Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:

New survey will help people fill gaps in government services

Everyone living in B.C. is encouraged to take the BC Demographic Survey to help identify systemic racism in government services.

The survey was created through engagement with Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities, and includes questions related to race, ethnicity, ancestry and other areas of identity.

The survey is online and available in 15 languages at: https://antiracism.gov.bc.ca/bcdemographicsurvey.

Clean power to electrify B.C.’s future

BC Hydro will move forward with a call for new sources of renewable, emission-free electricity to power B.C.’s growing clean economy and create new jobs throughout the province.

In addition, the Province is providing $140 million to the B.C Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI) to support Indigenous-led power projects, create economic opportunities for First Nations, and advance community self-determination.

Life-saving research gets provincial funding boost, expanded mandate

People in B.C. will benefit from sustained cutting-edge research as the Province provides $20 million over two years to the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre (GSC).

In addition to continuing its critical and groundbreaking work for cancer and other health issues, the genomics centre will play a key role in understanding areas such as forestry, marine science, agriculture, biodiversity, and the effects of climate change.

Farmers in Metro Vancouver and Abbotsford will have access to $1.5 million to implement practices that create benefits for food production and the environment.

Return-to-work requirements will protect injured workers

Injured workers will be better supported to return to their job, or other suitable employment, through new requirements under the Workers Compensation Act.

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, an employer and injured worker will be required to co-operate with each other and with WorkSafeBC to ensure the worker can return to their pre-injury job, a comparable job or, where the worker is not fit to do their pre-injury work duties, to other suitable work.
