“As an artist, I think you have some room to literally give form to the society we live in. So, this is aiming to teach exactly this. That if you don't like something, then it's up to you to change it.”
Quote from Anik Fournier in the publication:
Secure Learning and Culture Environments: Making Cultures in Art Schools

We are very happy to launch a new online publication: Secure Learning and Culture Environments: Making Cultures in Art Schools (by Sol Archer and Catelijne de Muijnck). In this publication you can find some of the lessons learned in recent years in formalising social behaviour and creating behavioural structures to come to a culture of responsibility and trust in shared spaces, such as art schools.
A report, launched 5 June 2023 by the Dutch Education Inspectorate, shows that while art schools consider social safety important for their students by now, there are still few policies in place to prevent excesses in this area. To create a culture of respect and safety, it states, it is needed that everyone in the organisation is involved in the conversations that lead to such a culture. This publication wants contribute to these conversations and to the processes to make art schools move to a genuine culture of trust and care.

Future Art School | Conference

What will the Art School of the Future look like?
How will it smell, taste, feel?
ArtEZ Studium Generale, the professorship Art Education as Critical Tactics and the ArtEZ BA and MA courses in Art Education are organising the conference: Future Art School: (Un)learning Practices on 30 November & 1 December 2023 in Zwolle Spoorzone.
During this conference, we will explore what the Art School of the Future might look like. What methodologies, processes, practices, spaces and relationships could define the art school of the future?
We invite ArtEZ students, lecturers and researchers to contribute to this conference:
When you think of the Art School of the Future, what do you see? What kind of teachers do we need there? What kind of building and learning spaces do we need? What form of assessment and feedback methods are necessary?
Perhaps you would like to share an interactive exercise with us, organise a workshop or give a presentation on your (artistic) research that focuses on the Art School of the future? Read more about this call on the website.
We look forward to your proposal!
