Dear Friends,
In 1206, St. Francis was praying in front of a crucifix in the dilapidated chapel of San Damiano. While he was praying, he had a vision of Christ coming down off the crucifix and saying, "Francis, rebuild my Church." Francis took this vision literally at first and began collecting stones, mortar, and wood to rebuild the Chapel. He soon realized that God was calling him to a much larger vision of rebuilding God's Church, not just that one chapel. Our world today is not that different from Francis' world. We are plagued by violence, economic disparity, governments in chaos, too many people relegated to the margins of society for myriad reasons, and a Church that is often at a loss on how to make a difference. God's call to Francis can be God's call to us as well, "Rebuild my Church."
This week I am at the annual Chapter for the Community and Francis, and our conversations have returned to the idea that this call to the early Franciscan movement continues to be our call today. How do we rebuild the Church - both the Church universal, but more importantly our Church at St. John's. What would that look like? What could that look like? One thing is for certain, the same old way of being Church is no longer working. How can we be the Church, proclaiming the good news of God's love to all people? How can we be the Church where the statement that "all are welcome," is not just lip service, but at the very core of our being? How can we be the Church where murmuring is no longer acceptable, and where our generosity ensures that all our ministries are active and vibrant and have the resources to continue? I would challenge each of you, as God challenged Francis over 800 years ago, "Rebuild God's Church!"
Grace and peace,
Fr. Jeremy

We are always looking for more helping hands to keep this outreach program up and running.
Volunteers meet just once a month, on the last Sunday of each month, and work collectively to shop, assemble, pack, and delivery food to individuals and families in need.
The main goal of the Family Food Share ministry is to assist food-insecure families in the Bloom Trail High School district.
