Curb Appeal

June 2023
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Curb Appeal from CJE Restoration!

We are excited to stay in touch and offer you a peek at some of our favorite projects and more. CJE Restoration is the premier exterior remodeler in Central Ohio. Our innovative approach to roofing, siding, and windows blends a personalized design experience with the highest quality materials. We partner with our clients from beginning to end to design and execute a renovation that makes us all proud. We are excited to share some of those projects with you in future issues of this newsletter!

While homes do at times call for large-scale renovation or major repairs, minor repairs and regular maintenance are just as important. We are always here for you should you need any of our services- big or small- but we also want to share ways YOU can help maintain the safety, comfort and beauty of your home throughout the year. We will share tips and tricks throughout the newsletter too.

And because we love the communities where we work, we’ll be spotlighting the people, places and events that make them special. At CJE, we do our best to treat your home and neighbors as our own, and to use our knowledge and experience working within the constraints of historic commissions and HOAs to satisfy all parties involved. This passion for quality and service means the clients and communities we serve become family. We look forward to sharing some of their stories here.

Thank you again for trusting us with your biggest investment. We are truly honored to be your partner in exterior design and renovation!

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT!
If you follow us on social media, you likely saw this home featured during Memorial Tournament week. We worked with the homeowner to bring their vision to life by updating the facade with new vertical Cumaru natural wood siding, Boral TruExterior lap siding, James Hardie panels, standing seam metal roofing, and epdm flat roofing. This is one of the most fun and unique projects we have had the pleasure of completing and the results are simply stunning!
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT!

We are proud to use quality materials and partner with reputable companies to bring our clients the best of the best. James Hardie is one such product! Have you heard of James Hardie siding and perhaps even seen it, but aren’t quite sure what it is?  Hardie siding is a fiber cement material that is more economical than wood, won’t attract pests, and resists water preventing swelling, cracking and buckling. Hardie siding color is baked-on, producing a low-maintenance product that means less fading and chipping. In addition, fiber cement siding is non-combustible and hail-damage resistant. You could potentially save on home insurance, and you’ll most definitely have more peace of mind with a home protected by James Hardie. Overall, Hardie siding is a stellar product we cannot recommend more enthusiastically!

A Spotlight on German Village...

As a 2023 Haus & Garten Tour sponsor and fervent admirer and supporter of the German Village Society, we would love to share some history of German Village with our readers.

German Village was originally referred to as the Old South End and was established in 1814 with much of its growth taking place from the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s thanks to German immigration. It was a working-class neighborhood of small, sturdy homes inhabited by happy, hard-working people. These people were, among other things, bakers, stonecutters, storekeepers, carpenters, tanners, bricklayers, and brewery workers who created a little Germany just south of Columbus.

Sadly, a 1923 zoning ordinance made way for manufacturing and commercial use, which began the decline of the Old South End. Other factors hastened the decline as well, including less dependence on the traditional German community as immigrants became more accustomed to American ways. Additionally, World War I created a distaste for Germany, and Prohibition saw the closing of the South End breweries, both of which contributed to the deterioration of the neighborhood.

Fortunately, in 1959 a revitalization started with the decision of one man. Frank Fetch chose to buy and restore a cottage on Wall Street and shortly after created the German Village Society, which has been dedicated to rehabilitating and restoring the village ever since. Fetch’s work, combined with that of countless others, eventually led to the listing of German Village on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. German Village is now one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Columbus and only seems to get better with time!

CJE Restoration is proud of our extensive work in German Village and is dedicated to preserving and restoring the homes in this gorgeous and historic community.
FEATURED REVIEW

“Josh and the team did an excellent job replacing all of exterior window and door trim, fascia, and soffits. Beyond the great work by the crew, Josh and his team provided excellent customer service and are really like partners in the process that care about the long term quality of materials and craftsmanship versus just getting the job done. Would definitely recommend CJE…and will!”
