NWJP organiza la sesión “Entrenando al Entrenador” para Trabajadores sobre la Salud y Seguridad.

NWJP continúa centrando los esfuerzos de divulgación y educación para garantizar que los trabajadores de Oregon tengan acceso a recursos importantes cuando se trata de sus derechos en el lugar de trabajo.

El sábado, 27 de mayo, Coordinadora de Liderazgo Obrero, Nicthé Verdugo y Abogada Kate Siusman llevaron a cabo una sesión de entrenamiento de salud y seguridad en Woodburn. Este entrenamiento, de día completo, fue dirigido con la visión de que los trabajadores desarrollarán sus propias habilidades de liderazgo y tengan la oportunidad de realizar futuros entrenamientos de salud y seguridad con NWJP. Nicthé y Kate equiparon a participantes con las herramientas para identificar los tipos de peligros, las mejores prácticas para controlarlos y / o eliminarlos, sus derechos de seguridad bajo las leyes de la Administración de Seguridad y Salud Ocupacional (OSHA), y cómo pueden ejercer sus derechos para demandar cambios en su lugar de trabajo. Los 15 participantes provenían de diferentes industrias, incluyendo agricultura, limpieza y trabajos de construcción. Participaron activamente, compartieron sus propias experiencias, hicieron muchas preguntas y profundizaron sus conocimientos sobre la salud y seguridad en el trabajo. 

Este entrenamiento fue en colaboración con el Centro de Servicios Para Campesinos y posible a través de una sub-beca de OSHA Susan Harwood que NWJP recibió del Consejo Nacional de Salud y Seguridad Ocupacional (COSH). La misión de COSH es construir el poder de los trabajadores y sus organizaciones para exigir empleos seguros, sanos y libres de explotación y abuso.

NWJP Hosts “Train the Trainer” Session for Workers on Health & Safety 

NWJP continues to center outreach and education efforts to ensure that workers across Oregon have access to important resources when it comes to their rights in the workplace. 

On Saturday, May 27th, Worker Leadership Coordinator Nicthé Verdugo and Attorney Kate Siusman conducted a Health & Safety “Train the Trainer” session in Woodburn. This full-day training was led with the vision that workers develop their own leadership skills and have the opportunity to help NWJP lead future health and safety trainings. Nicthé and Kate equipped participants with the tools to identify types of hazards, best practices to control and/or eliminate them, an overview of their safety rights under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws, and how they can exercise their rights to demand changes in their workplace. The 15 participants came from different industries, including farming, janitorial and construction work. They were actively involved, sharing their own experiences, asking many questions, and deepening their knowledge of health and safety at work.

This training was led in collaboration with the Centro de Servicios Para Campesinos and possible through an OSHA Susan Harwood subgrant NWJP received from the National Council for Occupational Safety & Health (COSH). COSH’s mission is to build the power of workers and their organizations to demand jobs that are safe, healthy and free from exploitation and abuse.
