Interim Lakewood Pierce County Library

The Pierce County Library System's Public Services and Facilities staff is working with architects from BuildingWorks on interior designs and plans for the interim Lakewood Pierce County Library.

The team is identifying existing furniture pieces from the Lakewood Library on Wildaire Road to be reused in the new building, in addition to new pieces to provide a clean, fresh identity to the new building while maintaining a familiar feel for the community.

The Library System continues to finalize plans with the builder, and when the necessary agency approvals are in place, more information about timelines for the interim library will be shared with you.

Lakewood Library on Wildaire Road SW

In keeping with the Lakewood Libraries Building Community Advisory Committee recommendation for a building on the current property, plans are underway following the Board's authorization in April to remove the building. Next steps include performing surveys to determine existing hazardous materials to be removed and existing utilities to be disconnected/capped.

The Library System is working with the Board on an overall building plan, which would include a long-term building for Lakewood Library. Such a facility plan is critical for the overall Library System and essential for moving forward with a long-term library in Lakewood.
