Brands Hatch Race Circuit

Historic Mini - Super Touring Weekend

July 2023, Historic Touring cars supporting the Super Touring cars at Brands Hatch... We are racing the GP circuit on Saturday 1st and the Indy circuit on Sunday the 2nd
Qualifying, for GP Circuit...
An interesting start for Nick, used to piloting the Miglia around all of a sudden he is in a car that does not corner or more importantly stop any where as near as well ! After a few nervous laps getting used to the "historic" way of racing he was back on it ! The pre-66 cars were mixed in with the Pre-83 group 1 touring cars so quite a mix of power and speeds. All went well with no drama and Nick put the car 12th on the grid.
Qualifying, for Indy Circuit...
Being a shorter track qualifying was needed again, and this time the cars were all pre-66 and Playmini was sitting 3rd on the grid
Bill and Steve getting the Mini tracked to perfection before qualifying
Race 1 - GP circuit ....
Nick brought the car home in a very respectible 12th position overall and 2nd in class. The Mini's lose out a little on the GP circuit to the bigger engines cars due to the long straights, never the less they put up a superb fight when the corners come up and still hitting 110mph on the straights
Race 2 - GP circuit ....
A great battle with the yellow Mustang, our Mini hunted it down and despatched it to finish the race 7th overall and a superb 1st in class !
Start of the pre-66 first lap
Race  3 - Indy circuit
Race three, a reasonable start saw Nick chasing down the Jaguar and Cooper S, ending the race in 3rd place putting Nick in a good position on the grid for race 4
Race  4 - Indy circuit
In our opinion and judging by the crowds reaction at the track, best race of the weekend. An amazing battle between Grant Williams in the Mk1 Jag, Ian Curley in his Cooper S and our fearless leader in the Playmini Cooper S...From start to finsih it was full on hard racing, Nick putting Ian under pressure, Ian in turn putting the Jag under pressure swapping positions but not paint. Nick was starting to reel Ian in then ( due to an earlier seat swap in the car ) Nick was having issues reaching 3rd gear and this came to light quite badly coming out of the Clark Curve when he grabbed a bunch of nothing going into 3rd gear !  He struggled to select 3rd again giving away a load of time to Ian. Nick pushed hard to make up the lost time and was catching up just as a nasty crash on Paddock Hill bend red flagged the race and it was all over. A superb clean race from all involved. Nick finished in 3rd place and also picking up fastest lap
Tyre shreading laps being put in by Nick !
After a long hard weekend of racing, the team brought the Playmini Cooper S home in one piece, the Swiftune engine still singing sweetly and the need for a larger trophy cabinet !
A big thanks goes out to Steve Lyons-Davis who's spanner throwing kept a big smile on Nicks face
