TteS Closed

Please note that the TteS offices will be closed on Monday, July 3 in observance of Canada Day. We will re-open at 8 am on Tuesday, July 4. We hope you enjoy the long weekend with friends and family!

Sunday Mass

Bishop Joseph Nguyen is holding Sunday mass services on the following dates:

  • July 2 at 1pm
  • August 6 at 1pm

We can't wait to come together again and worship in-person. See you all there!

Emergency Management

Tk̓wenem7íple7 Thomas met with the Honourable Bowinn Ma, Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, and her team members Assistant Deputy Minister Madeline Maley and Andre Morrison, Senior Regional Manager to discuss Emergency Management issues and opportunities.

Land Designation

Our second Land Designation Meeting is Wednesday July 5, from 5pm - 8pm at Moccasin Square Garden (MSG). Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Chief and Council need the consent of the TteS members to designate land for lease for the purpose of developing and providing social and affordable housing for Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc membership and their families.

If you need a ride, please call our Essential Services Driver, Evan Casimir at (250) 819-0850. He is available from 4pm - 8pm on July 5. Please arrange your ride at least 24 hours in advance.

Coffee with Leadership

Tk̓emlúps band members, please join us for a cup of coffee and an open discussion with Kúkpi7 and Tk̓wenem7íple7! We'll be chatting about our community, culture, and anything that matters to you. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with our local leadership and have your voice heard. Your input is valuable to us, and we want to hear what you have to say. Don't miss out on this chance to be part of an engaging conversation that could make a difference in our community.

Coffee with a Cop

On Wednesday, July 5 at 10:00 am, Moccasin Square Garden will host the upcoming "Coffee with a Cop" event. This gathering aims to foster a better understanding between Tk̓emlúps RCMP and community members. The casual setting of the event will offer a chance to engage in conversations over coffee and tea. The organizers hope that this initiative will further strengthen the relationship between the police and the community. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Red Bridge Closure

ARGO Road Maintenance will be conducting temporary repairs to the Red Bridge next week on Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6 at night. Expect bridge closures between 6PM and 6AM each night. For more information contact:

Elders Engagement Session

The Business & Economic Development Department is presenting an Elders Engagement session for the Chief Louis Centre Masterplan Update on Friday, July 7 at MSG from 10 AM – 12 Noon. Look forward to tea, pastries, lunch, door prizes and an engaging session hosted by Urban Systems. Unfortunately, shuttle service will not be available as the bus is getting repairs. PharmaCare Plan W Program

Great news for Indigenous individuals with Status Cards! You can access many Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications for free through the BC PharmaCare Plan W Program. No doctor's prescription is needed, and eligible Prescription Drugs and medical supplies/devices are covered too. Just ensure you have Status, active MSP coverage, or a child under 24 months with a parent who has Status. Stay healthy and save money!

Summer Camp

Full Circle all day Summer Camp registrations for TteS Band Members now open! A fun opportunity for kids to get out, play and make new friends! Camp runs July 4 – August 25, 7:30am – 4:30pm. Activities include:

Watt Program

Electrical Program coming to TteS this fall! TteS is partnering with the BC Electrical Workers Union (IBEW) and Houle Electrical to provide a WATT Electrical Program at TteS this fall. There will be a 3 hour gateway electrical workshop the end of August for band members that want to find out if this is a career for them. 8 people will be selected to take the paid on the job training for 6-12 months. This program will also provide the experience and hours towards the first year electrical apprenticeship. Community BBQ July 28

Mark your calendars for the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc Community BBQ on July 28th at Tyee Park from 10AM to 3PM!

Join us for a day filled with fun activities for all ages!Jump around in the bouncy castles, test your aim at the dunk tank, and challenge your friends and family to some thrilling yard games. We have a special guest, Uncle Chris the Clown, who will be spreading joy and laughter throughout the event! Of course, Don't forget about the door prizes! Make sure to participate for a chance to win some amazing goodies.

Bring your friends, family, and appetite for delicious food, as we celebrate our vibrant community together. Let's make this BBQ an unforgettable day of laughter, games, and connections!

Homeownership and You

Thank you, Scott Flammand from First Nations Market Housing Fund for providing these "Homeownership and You" meetings. If you were unable to set up a meeting due to time constraints, you can book a Zoom meeting. Are you a TteS member that's interested in becoming a homeowner on-reserve? Scott will be available to meet via zoom with TteS members privately to discuss financial management and help guide you in the direction of successful homeownership.

Public Works Hours

Public Works is moving to SUMMER HOURS starting this week. Business hours are 7am to 2pm, Monday to Friday. This includes curbside garbage and recycling pick-up and landscaping services. Garbage pickup will begin earlier so please ensure your garbage containers are out by 7am.

INDIGENOUS MUSIC AND CULTURE

2 Rivers Remix Music Feast LIVE at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) Powwow Arbour, July 7 - 9. On July 7-9th, 2023, 2RMX partners with TteS to present a FREE three-day feast of contemporary Indigenous Music and Culture at the beautiful Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Powwow Arbour. BRING THE CHILDREN HOME is the theme of the 2023 festival which features more than 40 incredibly talented and diverse Indigenous artists, toplined by Haisla Hip Hop megastars Snotty Nose Rez Kids (SNRK) and electric powwow supergroup The Halluci Nation (formerly A Tribe Called Red).

Karate

June exams have just been completed by Kamloops Renshikan Karate with Brooke and Lukas Leonard receiving their 1st stripe on their White Belt. The Spring Semester has just ended. Douglas Reserve Signing

Kúkpi7 Rosanne representing Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, Deanna Sitter representing Canada and Gareth Stuart representing the Province of BC all signed off on an updated Douglas Reserve Initiative Protocol, recommitting efforts to get this important issue resolved for the community.

Sweat Lodge

Powwow Volunteers!

Powwow Volunteers The 42nd Annual Kamloopa Powwow is only a few months away... and we need VOLUNTEERS! We have openings for: Concession, Janitorial, Gates/Parking, Maintenance, Security (Mandatory criminal record check for last 12 months). Ages 15 and up. Honourarium $12.50/hour. Canoe Pullers

Constable Dave Dixon is a skipper and looking to put together a canoe group interested in both local and travelling canoe journeys. This group is for individuals between the ages of 12 and 24. Yucwemínem ne Tsetsítcws-kucw Society (also referred to as “the YneT Society”) is a not-for-profit organization mandated to lead the development and management of non-profit housing for the Tk’emlúpsemc and raise the standard of housing for the community. The organization is mandated to build on strong cultural practices and traditions of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc.

Secwepemctsín Certificate

If you're interested in getting a Certificate in Language Proficiency in Secwepemctsín from SFU, contact Gabriel Archie, Language Coordinator, at TteS. Limited seats. Classes will be held at TteS Language & Culture classroom in Kamloops. 2 days a week from 9am to 3:30pm. Program starts in September 2023.

Halston Bridge Construction

NOTICE: There is an upcoming rehabilitation project on the Halston Bridge, which is a vital route for our community.

  • Westbound lanes construction: July 17, 2023 to November 2023.
  • Eastbound lanes construction: February 2024 to May 2024.

Regular work hours are scheduled from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. Occasional night work will be necessary to meet concrete placement temperature requirements. During this period, please expect some noise from construction equipment, including jackhammers. We anticipate the noise levels to be less noticeable as we progress eastward.
