Plastic Free July - Take the Pledge Today!!!

In 2020, the environment officially became Rotary’s 7th Area of Focus.  District 6690 remains committed to supporting all 7 of Rotary's Areas of Focus.

As 2023-24 District Governor, I am inviting all District 6690 Rotarians to join millions of people around the world in reducing their plastic waste this July.

Plastic Free July® is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

Don’t think you can make a difference?   Think again!
You can eliminate these common plastics in your life:

·     Coffee cups/Fast Food Drink Cups

·     Shopping Bags

·     Plastic straws

·     Plastic bottles

·     Just to name a few!

Will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to eliminate single-use plastics in your daily life?
Accept the Challenge and Take the Pledge to live Plastic Free in July here.

Those who sign up and commit to reducing/eliminating single-use plastic in July will be entered into a drawing to win $100 of Rotary Swag!   1 winner will be randomly selected the last week of July.

Together, we can Create Hope in the World and make a difference.
Take the Pledge Now…and eliminate single-use plastic from your life!

Serving Together to Create Hope in the World,
David

Hello, Changemakers!

Since the summer of 2022, Rotary members have been meeting with Westerville leaders to identify the unmet needs of teens and young adults ages 14-24 in our community. The overwhelming response has been a gap in immediate access to shelter (both emergency respite and affordable housing), along with communication of existing resources.

Upcoming events:

  • Strategic planning for solutions to immediate access to shelter kicks off this summer

  • Summer 2023: outreach to theatre, band, and sports coaches

  • July 27th: Star House CEO Ann Bischoff is speaking at our Rotary meeting

  • Partner with Neighborhood Bridges to communicate resources

  • Fall 2023: Hygiene drive

Get involved! Response requested - Let us know what you are willing to contribute to this initiative (time, talent, treasure, social network) ->

Build Beds!

Please join your fellow Rotarians in helping build beds with Bed Brigade, located at 171 E. 5th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

If you haven't worked with Bed Brigade before, don't worry, no experience is necessary!  All the wood is cut and just needs to be assembled.  It's an incredibly smooth operation. Bed Brigade is scheduling this build specifically for our club, so please come out and help. We would like to get 20 people to help build beds!

If you are unfamiliar with Bed Brigade, they build beds for people, mostly children, who are in need of a bed. For many, this will be the first time they will have a bed of their own. Along with the bed, Bed Brigade provides bedding, a pillow, a blanket, a stuffed toy for the children, and a Bible. Bed Brigade works locally with WARM, Neighborhood Bridges, and many other organizations to identify the need for beds.

Questions: Please contact Jodi Fletcher at 614-891-2952 or at jofletcher@breezelineohio.net

6/29 Meeting

Wonderful final meeting of the year for the 2022-23 Rotary Club of Westerville presidency of the Rev. Jim Meacham, our first member to ever serve two terms as President. (His first was in 1977-78.) Jim recognized Brad Dodrill as Rotarian of the Year, honored departing board members Tom Shaver and Jodi Fletcher, then thanked ALL club members for their contributions to his very successful year during our weekly lunch meeting at the Villa Milano. Jim presented each member in attendance at lunch Thursday with a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the Uptown Westerville Dairy Queen.

Thanks, Jim, for a wonderful year, and good luck Katrina Plourde, whose 2023-24 Rotary Club of Westerville presidency begins tomorrow, July 1!
