Countdown to 2023 Civitas Go-Team

Home base for Civitas 2023 Go-Team:

Remember that our home venue for the internship is at Crossroads College Preparatory School in the Central West End. The precise address is 500 DeBaliviere; St. Louis, MO 63112 (map). Please arrive no later than 8:55 AM each morning. Also, be sure to park in the lot across the street as indicated in the map below.

Specifically, what we're doing each day

We have field trips and/or speakers planned for all ten days. Here are two ways to look at our schedule of activities, each in PDF format:

Also included are plans for lunch each day. On Monday, we'll walk several blocks to a neighborhood grocery where there are plenty of lunch items for all tastes and food preferences.

Remember, show up by 8:55 AM on Monday.

What About Pay

As you know, interns will be paid $16/hr. and the total number of hours for the program is 60. This means that your gross pay as an intern will be $960.

Civitas pays monthly, so unless you have a financial emergency, you should receive your check by Tuesday, July 25. On the first day of the internship, each student will need to complete the IRS I-9 form so that everything is proper between you, Civitas and the IRS (Internal Revenue Service).

Other things to remember

Now we're three days away from the start of our 2023 Civitas Go-Team program. Here is an updated summary of the things that you need to know.

You can dress casually on the first day. There will be other days when it will be important to dress a little nicer. We'll let you know in advance.
Lunches -- we will be taking care of them every day for you. Certain days we have set places to go (Chevy's, Ballpark Village, Peel Wood Pizza); other days we will have food catered in, and some days we'll go to neighborhood eateries. ~~You'll have a budget of $12 per lunch.~~ We are changing this item; your budget for lunches will run between $10 and $15 per meal depending on where we are eating.

We now have three students who have let us know that they are vegetarian. Anyone else who is vegetarian, vegan, or has special dietary requirements, please let us know by clicking here.

3. What you need to do the work -- if you have a laptop computer or tablet, it would be great to bring it along the first day. Thereafter, we'll let you know what you need for each day. Obviously, bring your phone. If you don't have a laptop or tablet, let us know and we may have a couple available to borrow.

4. Bring your questions! Next week we will send out our calendar of activities, including a number of really cool speakers. More than anything, we want you prepared for each speaker with great questions. We'll give you more info on this on Day One.

There are no scheduled events remaining for high school students this school year. However, mark your calendars for these upcoming opportunities, details coming in mid-August:

The Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park, August 26 & 27, 2023: Civitas will have a booth on both days (Saturday and Sunday) and will be looking for student volunteers to help out.
Kick-off for the 2023-2024 School Year, Saturday, September 9, 2023: Stay tuned for more information!
