Kamloops Canoe & Kayak Club
Fast Boats on Flat Water - Monthly Member Update

July 2023

A big thank you to the schools of School District 73 that partook in our field trips season this May and June.  If you have a teacher in your life, please consider sharing our newsletter with them so they can subscribe and stay in the know.  This year Ms. McGarry’s 6/7 class from Mount Dufferin School was the fastest on the lake! Congratulations!

Our competitive season continues at full steam, our summer camps just got started and we have many recreational programs being offered by our awesome staff at beautiful Shumway Lake.

Have your kids considered Canoe/Kayak as a competitive team and individual sport? We have many options to get your kids involved to see if they have a yearning for learning and a passion for paddling! Please reach out to our Head Coach Amelia to discuss the great introductory opportunities geared at fun competitions with a Canoe Kayak team. True story: I didn't even know it was a sport until I started looking around Kamloops for an outdoor activity for my kids to enjoy, and here we all are many years later, enjoying lifelong friends and fierce competition up to the National and International levels. From local fun regattas to a high-performance program, we might have what your kids are looking for.

Read on to discover what we have in store for the rest of July.  Hope to see you at the Lake!

Peace Out,

Jody

This week we kicked off our summer programs. High-performance athletes, Learn to Train paddlers, and Summer Campers alike took Shumway by storm! The event of the week was Triathlon Thursday, featuring fierce competition from summer campers, sprint paddlers, and coaches alike. A huge congratulations to Deacon Pisio, this week's reigning champion (sorry Quintin, start training for next week).

Our Learn to Train program is growing, and if your child is looking for a fun, positive, and motivating atmosphere to practice in, it might just be the perfect fit. Please contact me with any inquiries about how to get your youth involved!
That's right team, if you are 20 years + you can Paddle With Us on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.  Chat with your friends and pick a boat or board that works for you.  Contact me for more info.  HeadCoach@kamloopscanoeandkayakclub.ca

Kelowna-based dry pack company. Keep your gear dry and clean while out on the water or on the beach.

Our Dry packs come in 10L, 15L and 20L sizes. 10L packs have a single strap so you can throw it over your shoulder and our 15L and 20L packs also double as backpacks to keep your hands free to get your boat into the water.

All packs are easy to write your name on or you can attach a personal item so you know which pack is yours.

Use promo code kamcanoe&kayak to save 5% from my website or 10% if you contact me. The Promo code works for all products we carry. Pick-up will be at the KCKC clubhouse.  You can also check these out at the KCKC Open House on June 17th!

Thank you:
Thank you to Debbi for making sure the KCKC equipment and private boats made it safely to and from the Ted Houk Regatta.  We appreciate the extra setup you and Leilani did for us before we arrived.

Another note of appreciation to Quintin for stepping in as the Coach for the event.  The support given to each and every athlete before and after each race was top-notch.  Well done for taking the lead at your first event Coach Q!

Our Summer BBQ was very successful too.  Thank you Amelia for bringing us together and welcoming summer in such a positive way!

Lastly, thank you to Kevin for looking after all those little maintenance items that turn into BIG things.  We now have proper paper towel dispensers installed and the girls have toilet paper holders once again :)  KWSC has fixed the toilets too.  Things are looking good for the summer!

Thank you to Amelia for organizing the June Open House Event and thank you to all the families for joining us!  The athletes did a fantastic job of supporting the families who joined us for the event.

In June, we successfully completed the field trips and gathered valuable feedback from the schools. This year we tried online registrations through RAMP and we received many positive reviews. We are efficiently managing the scheduling of summer camp staff and recently completed the onboarding process for part-time staff members. Looking ahead to July, the team will focus on revamping several registration pages on the KCKC website to enhance user experience. Additionally, weekly social media updates are planned to keep the community informed and engaged with the summer camp activities.

Race Course Maintenance:
The race course is in!  Thank you to Tracy Lanyon for helping us on his days off work.
Some items in the store may be exempt from discounts.  Please see the staff for details.
Have you done something that deserves recognition? Please submit photos and/or write-ups for fitness achievements achieved outside of the club, exciting adventures KCKC members are undertaking, or regatta results for races attended individually if you want to share them on Instagram, Facebook and the newsletter with the rest of the KCKC community.   Please remember that we do not have a club photographer.  Girish and Mischa can post to social media on your behalf anytime.  Send items their way anytime.  Mischa has volunteered to post items specifically from the athlete lens.
