Aber Days Celebration and Sunday History Programs Planned at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site


Fort Abercrombie, N.D. – Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site near Fargo will host Aber Days and the Sunday History Program series in August.

Aug. 5, Aber Days, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Join us throughout the day for the following activities: a blacksmithing demonstration by Michael Quade and family; Civil War sewing demonstrations by educator and author Carrie Newman; the 5th Minnesota Infantry Co. D. Civil War Encampment; a book signing and sales by historical authors Mattie Richardson, Candace Simar, Carrie Newman, and Jan Smith; a North Country Trail hike; Métis storytelling for children by Métis medicine woman Christy Goulet; and a tipi display, traditional music and history presentations by Seth Eastman, Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate.
1-3 p.m. Staff members Lis and Alan Fricker will present a photography presentation followed by a guided photography field experience.
 
Aug. 6, Aber Days Concert, 2-3:30 p.m. The Fladlands will perform a wide variety of music including country, rock and gospel at the Fort Abercrombie picnic shelter area. The concert is sponsored by Friends of Fort Abercrombie.
 
Aug. 13, Sunday History Program, 2-3 p.m. “General Sibley’s Expeditions in North Dakota” presented by staff member Lexa Klein.
 
Aug. 20, Sunday History Program, 2-3 p.m. “Women Homesteaders” presented by staff member Lis Fricker. 
 
Aug. 27, Sunday History Program, 2-3 p.m. “Fort Abercrombie Peace Conference August 14, 1870” presented by staff member Alan Fricker.

Fort Abercrombie is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are daily, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for youth.
