July on the ALT

The weather is warming up and trail use is in full swing!  


We have an ALT organized hike coming up July 15,16 in Glady, W.V. that will traverse through several of the W5 trail enhancements of new blazing, new bog and foot bridges, and the NEW Daniels Creek Bridge.  


The hike is 8 miles total and will spend one night on trail.  WVSTA will arrange shuttles and provide water and snacks.  President Jeff Byard will be leading this hike and sharing all about the new improvements.  His email is grizzlyjb@yahoo.com.

Dedicated volunteers on the NEW Daniels Creek Bridge!  Age ranges for this project were 13 - 79 and there were hundreds of hours involved in this project- Awesome WORK TEAM!

July ALT Spotlight

We’ve currently had several Thur hikers registering their hikes with us.   Next month we hope to feature the “Fastest Known Time” of the ALT thru hikers.   Stay Tuned !!!

ALT Follow-Up

The W5 was a HUGE success!  We had 44 volunteers helping on Sat (most ever).  Massive thanks to all the volunteers as well as an anonymous sponsor of dinner on Sat for Smoke On the Water BBQ and Jessica Sutton who arranged to have El Gran Sabor and Big Timber from Elkins, WV cater dinner/ drinks on Sun.

2023 Main Events

Oct 6,7,8 "TREK" Located in Section 3 near Marlinton, W.V. This is a great event for beginners and seasoned hikers alike. This is a supported hike, meaning WVSTA organizes camping sites and will carry your pack if you want each day.  WVSTA also provides snacks, water, and shuttles each day.  Dinner is provided on Sat night. Bring a friend and come have fun with us !  


Oct 21,22 Wild Foods Work Weekend  This tasty annual event will be held in conjunction with a work weekend this year in Section 4 at Hopkins Mountain Fireman’s Tower.  The tasty Wild Foods dinner will be held Sat Oct 21.  Full details will be coming in the Sept newsletter.  Camping will be free Fri, Sat.  Sat and Sun will be workdays 9am-3pm each day.

Off Trail

We had the Annual WVSTA Member meeting and we are excited to announce there are New MEMBERSHIP TIERS coming your way in July!  Student, Military Veteran, Introductory and Business Memberships to name a few!  These NEW Memberships also come with New Benefits be sure to check them out in the coming weeks on the ALT website!


SAVE THE DATE!!!!! The ALT is turning 50 next year!!  


We are excited to announce we will be celebrating this milestone at the Greenbank Observatory in Greenbank, WV on Sept 6,7,8 of 2024!
