JULY NEWSLETTER

A Message from the Vice Provost

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are all having a great summer and have had a chance to take some time off to enjoy the warmer weather. I'm sure campus is much quieter without all of our students there, but I know there is just as much work to do to prepare for them to return in August.

As I am reflecting on this past academic year and gearing up for another, I am reminded that July 31 is the feast day of St. Ignatius, the man whose teachings Creighton follows and instills in our students. Even if you are not religious, you may find value in using an Examen to practice gratitude in your daily life. Here's how you can use the Examen to find a bit more gratitude today:

At the end of your day, find a tranquil space to clear your mind. You might want to put on some white noise or calming music, and let your thoughts quiet.

Next, consider the previous 24 hours. What made you feel grateful? Use this moment to remember all that you have to be thankful for and consider all the good in your life.

Review your actions, emotions, thoughts, and conversations. Ask yourself questions of reflection, like what did you do well?; what could have gone better?; did you set an intention for the day, and did you follow through on it? Give yourself grace for moments that were not the best, and make a point to do more of the things you did well.

Finally, find ways to improve tomorrow. Ask yourself what you can do differently to make the next day better, or where you can find opportunities to change.

You can learn more and find specific Examens for various situations here

I hope you can find these moments to reflect and continue becoming your best self, both at work and at home. I look forward to seeing all of you in the future and wish you an inspirational summer season.

With gratitude,

Tanya

A Message from Cocoa

Hello hoomans! @cocoathecounselor here and I don't know about you, but I am loving the sunshine lately. Did you know that spending time in the sun can improve your mood, give you more Vitamin D, and even help you sleep at night?? All of these things can give your brain a boost and improve your mental health! (Just make sure you wear your sunscreen!)

Get outside with your favorite pals, whether they walk on two feet or four paws, and enjoy the weather while we have it. You can visit a farmer's market, do some outdoor exercise (downward facing dog, anyone?), or just have a nap in a sunny place. It's one of my favorite things to do! Make sure you bring some water with you to stay hydrated and come back in when you feel too warm. See you out there!
