Greetings from your Chief Passionate Volunteer and Executive Director!  It’s amazing to think we are gearing up for our 5th mission.  I get so excited to see the veterans being added to each mission and feel connected to each family as well.  We are grateful for the service and sacrifice of our honored veterans.  We cannot thank enough our sponsors (monetary and in-kind) as well as our countless volunteers that make these missions possible.  THANK YOU ALL!  Make sure to check out our website for a listing of 2023 sponsors and if you know of one that might be missing, let us know.  We are all volunteers, so things do get missed.

As we prepare for our September 27th flight, we also look back and are saddened by the veterans we have lost since May 3rd.  This includes past board member Ed Cobbler (Vietnam), D-Day veteran Vince Corsini (WWII) but several others.  We do go by age for our flights, but if there is a terminally ill veteran, we will do our best to accommodate them on the trip.

Blessings and see you soon!
Alison Huber

For the September 27th flight, Veterans will be notified in the next few months, as we work our way down the waiting list.  PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH US AS WE TRY TO HONOR OUR ELDEST VETERANS FIRST.

More About Star Spangled Girls
Commissioned in 2005 by UNC Greensboro’s Women Veterans Historical Collection, and performed by the Touring Theater of NC, Star-Spangled Girls is a review built from diaries, letters, interviews, telegrams, journals, and posters by and about the women who served the United States during WWII. Directed, adapted and compiled by Founding, Artistic, Producing Director Brenda Schleunes, five actresses portray WAC’s, WAVE’s, Army Nurses, and Red Cross volunteers. The characters based on real women veterans share their memories about enlistment, basic training, service at home and abroad, love, and segregation. Songs from war time are woven throughout the production.

“Five women capably jump in and out of characters as they tell their stories of love and loss, patriotism and discrimination, wild adventure and numbing routine. Their tales are interspersed with song snippets of the era (“Over There” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”).The actors fall in and out of accents – or even male characters – as the differing stories unfold revealing the strength, curiosity and gusto with which they became pioneers in the women’s movement.”

We are in need of 2 volunteers to assist with handing our event for this event at the Triad Honor Flight table.
