Hello there!

We hope that you have been having an eventful year!

Over here at Steer we have had a couple of events and activities building up to our growth and desire to make impact and here are some updates we’ve specifically curated for you.

Steer Scholars’ Impact Stories

True to our mission to support educational programs and support children, especially young girls, it is of great honour to inform you that our Keep Girls In School Program has been able to empower our beneficiaries to achieve great feats educationally.

Here are the impact stories of two of our outstanding scholars:

*Margaret Noah, one of our scholars who happened to be among  our very first  beneficiaries of the Keep Girls In School (KGS) Scholarship program, recently received admission into the University of Science and Technology, Rivers State to study History and International Diplomacy. Our journey with Margaret has been a long one which started right from her junior secondary school days and we are so excited to share this great achievement of hers. It gladdens us that our scholarship program has been able to help her finish her secondary education leading her to further her education into the university.

*Fajana Praise Ayomide, also a beneficiary of our Keep Girls In School (KGS) Scholarship who made us proud by winning a prize during a debate competition organized by Black Girl’s Dream Initiative, has finished her West African Secondary School Certificate Examination as well as earned an outstanding score of 272 in her UTME and is anticipating studying Physiotherapy at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Keep Girls in School (KGS) Scholarship

Our call for the second cohort of Keep Girls In School (KGS) scholars application went out late December 2022. We received 70 applications from young girls across Nigeria in primary and secondary school age. After careful selection, our team shortlisted 20 applicants for interviews and further screening. After which we have now arrived at the selection of 10 young girls  in dire need of the scholarships for the second cohort of the  KGS Scholarship Program. We are excited to support their education and can’t wait to hear about their amazing growth and development stories. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you be interested in supporting this program.

First Physical Teachers’ Training 2023

On the 25th of March 2023, we had our first physical teachers’ training in 2023 at Diamond Global Academy in Minna, Niger State. We met with 38 teachers/educators who participated in the training focused on the self-efficacy of teachers, team building & collaborations skills and learning to balance their work and life for maximum productivity in classroom activities. The training was facilitated by Usman Muhammed an Educational Administrator and Terence Adams a Teacher, two of our newest facilitators who joined our community of trainers.

You can check out our post here or read more on our medium page.

Capacity Building for Educators by Educators

In the last few months we have held three virtual-interactive teachers’ training sessions on ‘Google Office Tools For Teachers and Educators’, ‘Accessibility In Digital Classroom’ in partnership with facilitators from Teach for Nigeria and ‘Introduction To Digital Citizenship For Educators.’

It’s such an honour  for us to be able to educate and equip educators/individuals with skills they need to thrive in the classrooms and their life.

Girls In ICT DAY 2023

In commemoration of #GirlsInICTDay23, the Steer Initiative team organized a Twitter Space discussion themed: “Digital Skills for Life: Impact of Technology on Education.”

It was an insightful space and we were honoured to have three young and amazing women thriving in the technology space; Grace Olayinka a Blockchain App Developer and Tech Lead at NIYO GROUP UK, Lilian Bello a Graphic and User Experience Designer for FillyCoder California and Ameerah Muhammad Ashir a Tech Expert and Founder of Faidhaa Innovation Hub as speakers to share their experiences and help us break some misconceptions surrounding girls and women in ICT.
