Seven Reasons for Strong Core Values
Dear Reader
Today I want to talk about core values. As part of our EOS journey with our clients, one of the first things we do is an exercise to discover and refine their core values.
Our core values are three to seven guiding principles that help guide us through our journey, so that we can become better together and that we can have the behaviors that we expect of each other, from each other, so that we are better together.
This is discovered in an exercise where we work together with a senior leadership team, and once discovered and once these are communicated to everyone, it really sets you up for success.
I've counted seven real benefits of having your core values defined and shared with everyone in the organization.
The first thing is that it defines your culture. You know who fits your culture and who doesn't fit your culture inside your organization, what the alignment is.
Secondly, it helps you to hire the right people and fire people who are not in alignment with your core values.
The third benefit is that from time to time everyone can come back onto the same page and we can review everyone and we can guide behaviors, so that we all work together to become better together.
The fourth thing that's really inspirational and motivational for everyone and everyone in the company to know what these values are and to see leaders display them, it then inspires everyone to be better and to follow those core values.
The next thing is, because everyone is aligned, communication becomes easier and there is less drama in the organization.
With all of these things happening, things get done faster, so you can move faster, you can be more productive and the company becomes more profitable.
The last one, maybe the most important one - because we all share the same values, we all build together, we can have a fun environment, we can have more fun together as a team.
So there you have it, seven reasons to make sure that you spend the time to discover, describe and share your core values with everyone in the organization.
