DUT RANKED AS ONE OF THE TOP 13 UNIVERSITIES IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) was ranked as one of the Top 13 universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, by the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings. This first ever ranking of the universities in Sub-Saharan Africa was officially announced at the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Universities Forum at Ashesi University in Berekuso, Ghana on Monday night (26 June 2023).
DUT was ranked amongst 88 universities from 20 countries, in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The adjudication process for the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings was based on a comprehensive range of performance indicators across five pillars:
THREE DUT STUDENTS ARE AMONGST THE MAIL & GUARDIAN 200 YOUNG SOUTH AFRICANS
Durban University of Technology (DUT) students and entrepreneurs, Zime Nxumalo, Ntobeko Mafu and Zakhe Khuzwayo, were named amongst the Mail and Guardian 200 Young South Africans for 2023. This prestigious event, which recognises and rewards youth who have created resilient, entrepreneurial and robust solutions was recently held in Sandton, Johannesburg.
Nxumalo (20), a third-year DUT Information and Communication Technology (ICT) student was listed amongst the game changers under the Technology and Innovation category. She is a dynamic young lady from Inanda, Durban and is the founder and CEO of Zime Wezwe Creatives.
DR GBADEYAN RECEIVES HIS FIRST NOMINATION FOR HIS INNOVATION AT THE NSTF AWARDS
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Durban University of Technology (DUT), Dr Oluwatoyin Joseph Gbadeyan, has received his first nomination at the National Science Technology Forum (NSTF) South32 Awards, which will be hosted simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg on Thursday, 13 July 2023. He is nominated for the Innovative Award: Corporate Organisation.
Dr Gbadeyan is a scholar, researcher, innovator and engineer. His research career started at DUT in 2015 and he believes that whatever he has achieved to date, started from the noble institution, DUT.
MKHULISI AIMS TO EDUCATE STUDENTS TO UNLOCK THEIR POTENTIAL THROUGH MASTERING DIGITAL SKILLS
The charismatic Nompilo Mkhulisi (24) , an honours student in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), came to the Durban University of Technology (DUT) with a huge passion to explore every opportunity the institution had to offer. Her thirst for becoming an ‘adaptive graduate’ grew from the first day she had entered DUT, striving to take on any opportunity that the University provided her.
“During my first year at DUT, I auditioned to be a presenter for Radio DUT and was honoured with the opportunity to co-host an evening show. That experience taught me a lot about confidence and finding my inner voice.
HUMAN CAPITAL SERVICES HOSTS A YES PROGRAMME SITE VISIT
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Human Capital Services recently hosted the Youth Employment Service (YES) programme Site-Visit at DUT Indumiso Campus, in Pietermaritzburg. The aim of the visit was to assist in conducting regular monitoring and evaluation, to ensure that the programme was on track. The schedule for the visit was facilitated by the DUT Organisational Development and Talent Management Director: Mr Avhatakali Nenungwi.
Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) Academic Development Practitioner: Professor Livingstone Makondo welcomed guests who had attended, advised students on how to become successful in life and also expressed that they should make an effort in obtaining as much information as they can, since they are part of such an incredible opportunity.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I assist students and lecturers with Information Technology (IT) related issues, this includes fixing laptops or computers, connecting to the DUT domain and I participate in events that take place on the Indumiso Campus.”
