Funeral Service for Ginny Foot is tomorrow, July 1, 2023 at 10:00a.m.

A repast will follow the service in the Parish Hall.

Greetings friends,

On July 3, we enter the Dog Days of Summer. It is a time when people often think that regular stuff – program year stuff – doesn’t happen. But I am here to tell you, that in the family of God, there is no time when things aren’t going on!

So, if you find yourself with less to do these days, here are some things that are happening.

This Tuesday is Independence Day and we are still serving at the Way Café! Our guests will be sharing a traditional 4th of July lunch with hotdogs and hamburgers and the trimmings.

Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches is looking for some new drivers. Here’s what they say about their work, “Provide nutrition and peace of mind to homebound seniors, with daily chef prepared meals delivered by compassionate dedicated volunteers.” If you are looking for a way to help in our community, here’s an idea! You can reach their president, Pamela (the same Pamela who makes our slides for Morning Prayer!) at pcalzadilla@mowpb.org

Thinking of our partners in the area, you might want to consider cleaning out a closet and finding you have some shoes you no longer need. The Farmworker Council can use gently used shoes. They are at 1123 Crestwood Blvd, Lake Worth, FL 33460, between 13th and 14th Avenues North, just south of the Bravo Supermarket.

Maybe your superpower is grocery shopping. If it is, you might want to pick up something extra to share with others. We have a box outside the church where we put in non-perishable food items for the community. The Farmworker Council is also looking for food!

Please don’t forget your family here at St. Andrew’s. You can sit in the air conditioning of your home and pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t seen in a while. Don’t worry about bothering someone, they don’t have to pick up the phone if they are busy!

Also, please don’t forget your pledge and offerings. Though things are slower at times, our bills remain the same! Your contributions and love offerings allow us to worship God, feed the hungry, host community arts, study God’s word, and be together with lights and air! Without you, none of this can take place.

You might not see it, but God is moving in this place! Recently two men who had felt unwelcomed in churches in general have found a home here and received the welcome of our altar. Some women have watched us online and have come to visit, sometimes from far away, because we offer welcome. St. Andrew’s is an incredibly special place. Your presence is part of that welcome, love, and joy. No matter what else happens, please come to worship when you can. The Body of Christ needs you.

Finally, if you need help, remember we are here. The Care Committee would love to hear from you. Care Committee main contacts are Brian McDonnell at 561.339.0147 & Natalie Homewood at 646.623.7444. And you can always call me. My number here at the church is 561-582-6609 or my cell is 561-788-5125. You are loved – even when it is too hot to move!

Blessings,

Spotlight on Natalie Homewood: Rooted in Lake Worth Beach

To London native Natalie Homewood, adjusting to life in the United States offered more of a culture shock than she expected. “You think it wouldn’t be a big deal. We speak the same language,” says Natalie. “Grocery shopping overwhelmed me—you refer to things by different names here in the States.”

Natalie grew up in Camden Town, North London. Artistically inclined, creating art fascinated her as a child and inspired her career as a visual effects artist.
“When I was a kid, I loved Jim Henson’s work, The Muppets, and considered becoming a puppeteer.

Later, as 3-D animation appeared, I was blown away by movies like ‘Toy Story.’ At school, the only subject I felt passionate about was art.” Following a short stint as a student at Essex University, Natalie stumbled upon a computer animation course. “It was still a relatively new program at the time, but I took a chance, enrolled, and really enjoyed it! Luckily, it saved me from a potential pile of student debt.”

After she completed the course, she landed her first job at Cinecast as a runner. “I was a go-fer, making coffee for the crew.” To keep learning, she volunteered to do effects other people couldn’t do. “As long as I completed my other work, they allowed me to stay longer and learn. It was invaluable on-the-job training.”

Natalie specializes in creating very detailed work for both live action and animation productions. Her work has appeared in films including the fourth and fifth installments of “Harry Potter” as well as “Narnia.” Today, she supervises the Character Effects division for The Mill, part of Technicolor Creative.
Although the company is based in New York City, Natalie works remotely from the home she shares in Lake Worth Beach with her wife, Miriam Garcia.

The pandemic prompted the couple to relocate to Florida. “Experiencing lock down was a huge game changer and made us realize how important it was for us to be close to family. Florida was a logical choice, since Miriam’s family lives in Miami. In addition, my parents and brother live in Texas.”

Natalie grew up attending an Anglican Church in London, and then later, after a period away from churchgoing, joined Church of the Intercession, an Episcopal Church while living in New York City’s Harlem. After moving to Florida, Natalie noticed St. Andrew’s one day while returning home from the beach. “I
thought it was such a cute church, the way it was situated on the corner. I looked it up on Google Maps and was thrilled to see it was an Episcopal church! We decided to check it out.”

Natalie and Miriam enjoyed a warm welcome when they attended their first service at St. Andrew’s, and it kept them coming back. “Everyone was so friendly; this blew us away. And Rev. Cori’s sermon was so welcoming and topical. As a gay couple, we felt safe.”

Recently, they volunteered to help plan the Gatsby Ice Cream Social, and Natalie joined the Care Committee. “As time goes on, I plan to slowly get more involved, including helping to grow the church’s membership.”
With their home in Lake Worth Beach, Natalie and Miriam are intent on establishing roots. “We’re not going anywhere. We’re here for the long haul.”

We are always looking for volunteers to help serve our meals to the hungry.  It is usually only about an hour of volunteer time from 11:15am to 12:15pm.

We also accept donations of non-perishable food items, canned dog food and feminine sanitary items for the outside St. Andrews Community Food Pantry.  Donations can be left in the Way Cafe fridge/freezer room.

Don't forget that we have Meals available for you to take to anyone that is ill or maybe a caregiver that needs a break.  You can get them from the top shelf in the Way Cafe Freezer any time the office is open or when there is a Church service.

Thank you for all donations of food and your time!
