Words from Father Ed

First of all, thanks to everyone who sent so very kind condolence messages to me remembering my brother’s passing. Many family members and friends attended his funeral at Sioux Falls, SD and many others will be present at his burial on the Black Hills National Cemetery later on.
My thanks to all of you for your attention to my presentation or the “state of the union” for St. Patrick’s on Sunday, July 9th. The vestry took another look at those challenges at their meeting on July 19th and we will be concentrating on two areas first, membership growth and financial stability.
All challenges are important but those two will be a priority!
For your convenience, all the challenges are represented here for your perusal.
Finally my thanks to those of you who have recently returned to St. Patrick’s and to those who have recently made a new pledge. Your presence is in wonderful accord with what St. Patrick’s needs.
On to the rest of the summer!
Plan now for the parish picnic set for August 27th.

Blessings,
Father Ed

Thank you to Sharron Simpson
Thank you so much to Sharron Simpson for leading a wonderful class; God Is Love at St. Patrick's. Today they wrapped up their two sessions. There was a great turnout of over a dozen people who had an introductory to wisdom of the three Abrahamic Faiths.

Sharron took the time to set up the classroom the way she wanted for the class. Just lovely!

We would like to share the The Most Beautiful Names of Allah: Asthma Al-Husna from Sharron's class. Can you believe there are 100 different ways to say God! (Including Allah)
Please click on the link below to check it out! It's very interesting!

Food Bank Distribution!
Greetings Friends! Check out Eleanor's thankful note to her volunteers from Monday, July 10th. Next week on Monday, they will return again!

Dear All,

Thank you to Pam/Larry, Erin, Carolyn, Barbara, Tomie the driver, and REFB sub rep for Arturo, Eddie. Arturo is on his honeymoon!

IN SPITE OF THE HORRIFIC TRAFFIC JAM ON HWY 12,  (delaying traffic about 30 minutes + or -, due to the road construction close to Tips Restaurant) 45 households/151 individuals received food tonight! We're told this will be last for about 3 more weeks - REALLY???!!!  There is only one lane - the other is literally gone!  There also was no power in the area, due to be restored before midnight!  Our mighty team pressed on and conquered!

Given the new distribution process moves quickly, we're going to try to operate with 4 volunteers plus me as a floater/substitute.  So, for July 24, volunteers will be Andrew, Beth, Brad and Natalie.

It's just amazing to watch God work through apparent obstacles!

Eleanor

EYE 2023

Our very own Dakota Borgfeldt had the opportunity to go to the University of Maryland. What a blessing!
Check out the article below which includes a photo and a quote from Dakota!

We’re back from EYE23!

On July 4, we made our way to the University of Maryland in College Park for EYE23, the triennial gathering of Episcopal teens from all over the world. Our delegation, among the largest in attendance, consisted of 19 teens from across our diocese, and 4 chaperones.

The highlights of EYE23 include amazing worship each day, featuring the EYE band, “Charcuterie,” and rousing sermons given by the Rev. Nancy Frausto, director of Latinx Studies at Seminary of the Southwest, Julia Ayala Harris, President of the House of Deputies, and Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who told us about his cat named “Muffin”!

Our teens also participated in workshops each day, with the topics ranging from gun violence, suicide, and climate change to church governance, building community, and what it means to be an Episcopal Christian. If you know one of our teens (or chaperones) who went to EYE23, give them a few days to get some rest, then be sure to ask them all about it!

Images and Reflections from EYE 23

EYE23 was truly eye opening. I met people I never would’ve met, worshiped in ways that I didn’t think were possible, and grew closer to God. I have developed a better understanding of the Episcopalian faith, all thanks to the mentors. Now I go forth to continue writing my story in the light of God.

– Dakota Borgfeldt

EYE23 taught me a lot about using my faith to practice positive change in my community. I attended many political and violence prevention workshops that directed me to how change is done in not only the church but also the world. I will take these lessons and utilize them for change, as well as teaching others.

– Ethan Bullard

EYE 23 was a great event that I’m glad I attended. The people were nice and welcoming, the events were good, and almost everyone was having a good time. And those you didn’t atleast had a fun time meeting new and hanging out with friend. It was a good event to be closer to God and to people who weren’t as close or as religious as others could still participate. The workshops that were offered were good as well, and they opened up many different conversations and viewpoints. I’m glad that I attended, and I hope that the lessons and new knowledge I learned continues with me and helps me through life.

– Laura Castaneda
