 Groundbreaking Ceremony

We are excited to share with you a video capturing the groundbreaking ceremony that took place on May 17, 2023. The video was shot and produced by the team at Creative Crow Media, a Yukon First Nations Company. The video beautifully portrays the sense of excitement and anticipation of the day.

 Construction Update

Construction on this project is full steam ahead.
  • Grading and installation of the retaining wall on the back of the site is almost complete.

  • Backfill and compaction is well underway on the north wings, with the south wings to follow.

  • Plumbing under slab has been installed and we are continuing to work on the remaining pieces that need to be installed in the basement before concrete pours begin.
In the next few weeks.
  • We will start to see sections of the building progressing on formwork, rebar, and concrete. Materials, equipment, and fill will continue to be brought to site over the next few weeks.

  • Temporary power should be available within the week, which will allow the crew to have access to a site office and lunch shacks on-site.
Thank you for your patience, especially to our neighbours, as we progress quickly on construction this summer!

Yukon Entrepreneur Inspires Excellence in Construction, Community Development, and Receives Prestigious Cando Award

Les Walker is a seasoned entrepreneur and a proud member of the Champagne & Aishihik First Nations has carved a remarkable path in the construction industry in Yukon, Canada. His story of perseverance, leadership, and commitment to community development is one that inspires both aspiring builders and those seeking to make a positive impact.

Walker's journey began as an apprentice in the Construction industry, where he honed his skills and gained hands-on experience that laid the foundation for his latest venture—the construction of the esteemed Family Wellness Preservation Centre. As co-founder of the Ketza/Walker Joint Venture, Walker's commitment to building not only structures but also promoting the well-being and growth of his community shines through.

With over 40 employees, many with Yukon First Nation ancestry, Walker Home Construction serves as an economic opportunity and a place where individuals can thrive and contribute to the company's success.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Les Walker was honored with the Individual Private Sector Business Award at the 28th annual Cando Conference in 2022. The prestigious Cando Award acknowledges his remarkable contributions to the construction industry and community development. This accolade further solidifies Walker's commitment to excellence and his dedication to making a positive impact beyond the realm of construction.

Beyond his role in the construction industry, Les Walker actively engages with the local community, supporting various organizations and charities. His genuine passion for fostering community wellness has led to his involvement as a two-term Councillor on Chief & Council for the Champagne & Aishihik First Nation. Walker's dedication to community well-being extends beyond his projects, creating a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Les Walker's remarkable journey, from apprenticeship to joint venture, exemplifies the power of determination, passion, and community development. His vision for Walker Home Construction goes beyond building structures; it embraces a commitment to excellence, employee growth, and making a positive difference.
