Chair Executive's Foreword
|
|
Dear ISRRA members,
Our community is rapidly expanding, and our activities gaining more attention. Thanks to the promotion our members have done, we will soon reach 500 members. Additionally, in the next 2-3 weeks we will be announcing the recipient(s) of the first ISRRA grant (to be used for a lab exchange); and our new emerging leaders, who will join the current ones.

Marion Walker steps down from the Start Up Executive,
When the idea of holding our first Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable (SRRR) occurred, Marion was one of the first people I sought out as a sounding board. Operating on the principle of ‘ask three people you respect’
|
|
|
to test if an idea holds water, Marion was full of enthusiasm. That was 2016. Since that time, Marion has given her time, her enthusiasm, her strategic mind, her unique and person-centred perspective to both SRRR activities, and the formation of the larger Alliance we have today. A foundational member of ISRRA, she has helped craft our early strategy, led the Centres of Clinical Excellence working group and supported an array of activities to help build our Alliance. As Marion steps down from her role on the Executive, I want to thank her and acknowledge the remarkable contribution she has made to our group; and to those who follow in her footsteps.
Thank you, Marion.
You still have time to get actively involved with ISRRA,
While our first two application processes (i.e. lab exchange grant and emerging leaders) have already reached their deadline, the call for new working groups remains open. If you are thinking about getting involved with ISRRA and have an idea for a new working group, you can still submit it.
Stroke Recovery & Rehabilitation Roundtable (SRRR III),
This October, the SRRR groups will present the culmination of the hard work they have been doing over the last 2 years. Our four taskforces (NIBS, Fatigue, Control arm selection in trials, and standard outcomes for walking and balance) will have a special session at WSC where they will explain their findings and recommendations moving forward. If you are going to WSC in Toronto and are interested in attending this session, please see the details below.
ISRRA meetings in 2023,
October is looking promising, with another opportunity to meet with members at the World Stroke Conference in Toronto, Canada. Please let us know if you will be in Toronto (link below) and are interested in participating in our face-to-face activities
ISRRA Inc,
We continue to explore the right model for ISRRA incorporation as a formal entity. Over coming months the Executive will finalise forward planning, which will see a number of changes to our organisational structure and systems. We look forward to sharing more information with members as we progress these discussions.

Would you like to lead a Working Group within ISRRA? Check this opportunity!
The work we do at ISRRA is completed by working groups. These working groups should have ambitious goals that could not be achieved without building collaborations.
Any ISRRA member can form a working group. The only requirement is that the proposed working group must align with the strategic vision of ISRRA.
|
|
Our current working groups focus on:
• Criteria for Neurorehabilitation Centres of Excellence
• Frailty
• Exercise and physical activity
• Building our rehabilitation economic song sheet
• Industry engagement
|
|
|
If you have an idea for a new ISRRA working group, we encourage you reach out and tell us about it!

The REFORM study – Focusing on Clinical Practice Guidelines in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC):
The Global Consortium for Stroke Rehabilitation (GCSR) that services low resource settings, is conducting a cross-sectional survey – UndeRstanding the Perceived BarriErs and Facilitators for ImplementatiOn of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Rehabilitation Professionals in Low and Middle Income Countries (the REFORM study).
The GCSR focuses on Clinical Practice Guidelines for stroke rehab in LMICs and their work is currently under review for publication. The team is inviting responses from PTs & OTs working in LIMCs. If you are interested in joining the consortium, please contact any of their representatives below.
Various LMICs have adapted CPGs from High Income Countries to their local settings. However there is a paucity of data on actual utilization in LMICs. This multi-national survey would help understand the associated multifactorial facilitators and barriers in the acceptability and clinical applicability of CPGs. Click below to answer the survey:

We are in the process of building 4 new resources for our web:
If you think there is anything relevant to stroke that we should be sharing in our web, please reach out to us!

For policymakers (website sneak peak)
On the page dedicated to policymakers, our goal is to create a hub where people can share and access relevant documentation informing policymaking in stroke.
For instance, the World Health Organization just released the "Package of interventions for rehabilitation for stroke", which we will link in our web.
This package of interventions of rehabilitation for stroke is intended to be used for adults who have experienced a stroke, including intracerebral haemorrhage, or subarachnoid haemorrhage in acute, post-acute or chronic stage.
