Dear friends,
Here we are mid-summer! On the other side of Kupalo (solstice) and the peak of summer; now what we've sown and tended explodes with fecundity and fruit, and gives and gives and gives.
It's up to us to keep up, find ways to receive and handle all the bounty, to enjoy the delicious gifts of summer: early mornings, fresh clear waters, buzzing bees in the flowers...
May you enjoy peace this summer through moments of gratitude! We look forward to sharing some of these moments together. (See you at the feast?! ;)

May peace reign in free Ukraine and may our bonds of resistance grow ever stronger and more beautiful!

~Bozena Hrycyna

SUMMER~ ЛІТО

Early Summer Singing Sessions

In May & June, singers came together to learn traditional Ukrainian songs for the season, from the Rusalia & Kupalo ritual celebrations.

They had fun sharing these at solstice time and at various festivals around the GTA. :)

Huge thank you to Andrea     Kuzmich for leading the
workshops, and Iryna   Lozynska and Mario Morello   for assisting!

Stay tuned for more   singing opportunities
  in the fall!

Garden Work Bee Толока at Camp

June 10th folks came together to prepare & plant in the garden at Plast camp in Grafton, ON. Thank you!

UPCOMING EVENTS!

~Meet Me In the Meadow~
TOPSY FARMS, AMHERST ISLAND
JULY 21-23

It's our 2nd annual scything gathering!
Folk Camp has teamed up with Ontario Rural Skills Network (now "Ontario Land Skills") and Topsy Farms to once again to host a weekend of workshops in mowing with a scythe ("kosa"), peening (sharpening), haymaking, and meadow care. Workshops for beginners and plenty to do for intermediate mowers :) All levels and skills welcome.

It's mid-summer and the start of the harvest season known as Zhnyva, Dozynki, Жнива in Slavic languages (and Lammas in English). We'll be marking the importance of this time by honouring our ancestral traditions of harvest with crafts, songs and good bread :)

It was a wonderful experience last year and we can't wait to host a new group this year. Join us for a unique learning opportunity, camping on site, delicious local homegrown homemade meals, music & good company!
It's not too late to Register for a weekend or day pass.. See link for more information.

(You do not need a scythe to participate. If you wish to purchase scythes & supplies, they are available through Bozena @thisfolklife.)
